rossi is so clean, the example of "how to ride a bike" but if you are not perfect like him, you are just slow. marquez is an innate talent, if you are able to ride his way you are a beast... if not see you at the hospital.

rossi is more planted on the corner... marquez is carrying more speed hence getting wide...

As an avid watcher of motogp for 4 years, and a motorcycle racer my self, I can say both marquez and rossi are exceptional at adapting their style to the track, conditions, and bikes. both are highly intelligent, both have some of the best racing lines (lines that only differ a few feet than most riders but make a big difference) both are fantastic at reading their opponents, understanding their styles, psychology, and weaknessness and strengths. Both are fantastic at working with their team to set up the bike, and are very technically knowledgeable and insightful (many riders just tell the team what they want, and dont really understand the science behind bike setup) They differ in that Rossi is a very silent rider, and also extremely still and sensitive on the bike., he can feel every last thing going on, allowing him to ride to the limit, Rossi steals alot from other riders (not a bad thing) and will pick up on ways to go faster following other riders, and then improve from the information he gathers (complete style change after marquez came through and started hanging very far off the bike) Marquez is an extremely emotional and intuitive rider, He rides constantly just over the limit, and is subconsciously riding on a level he doesnt fully understand while hes riding (why he is always suprised when he is the fastest) he is very raw and has a fantastic rythm using his bike and his body as one system controlling the bike and reacting to minuscule changes in the track surface(very similar to how Ayrton Senna raced and as astonishingly fast too). This is what happens when two Exceptionally talented, intelligent and charismatic riders battle, it becomes sensational, and legendary..

My love for bikes and Yamaha started by watching VR46 throughout my childhood.
He is a legend.
I own a yamaha R15 now, and bought it in the same year this video was released.
No matter who comes after him... my favourite will always be VR46.
This video explains.. the track knows it's Rossi. Legend born for this.

Marquez is just like Senna, whatever it takes to get the victory, driving to the very limit, being aggressive on the opponents

These riding styles suit best to their machines

Rossi: Clean and Controlled - Apt for Yamaha

Marquez: Agressive and Fast - Apt for Honda or Ducati

Rossi; the ONLY RIDER TO WIN BACK TO BACK TITLES ON DIFFERENT MANUFACTURED MAKES OF BIKE. THIS HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE OR SINCE MOTO GP STARTED IN 1949.

I think Marc took a square racing line, which is why he goes that much wide. Vale took a more tight line, but still a conventional racing line, which helped him stick to the turn. The end result is that Marc will get a faster lap time, but will slide around too much. Vale will get a good time, but because of the tighter line, he might be a tad slower than Marc. But then, this is just a part of a turn so we can't really tell much, other than the exit.

Rossi: arm first, knee later for more ground clearance
Marquez: body lean, for shorter CG

Remove traction control from these bike and then we would see Rossi on top again. His riding style is like a built-in traction control that doesn't scrub off speed
