Everyone should have to watch this before applying to PT school. I’m introverted and didn’t understand just how people-facing the profession is until I started doing clinicals. It’s negatively affected my mental health and I don’t see it changing until I figure out an exit strategy. For now I work in acute care. I can go hide in a stairwell for 10 minutes whenever I need to! It’s sustainable-ish for me for now.

I'm a 2nd year physical therapy university student
And every point you have said is very accurate thanks for clarifying the points
However I am in deep love with physical therapy.

As a DPT for decade, great points. Unfortunately I don’t see this changing in the field. Less autonomy given to us than we actually deserve. Different states don’t allow different things and it’s a shame. Main thing also is there is minimal to no progression in our field in salary. Until we get access to images, prescribing limited pain medication like the PT in the military does, I don’t see it happening. With those, ppl who get certified and get extra education should be allowed with increase pay.

I'm a first year PT student and I came to youtube to find a good reason to sacrifice the next 6 years of my youth to this program and I've only found good reasons NOT TO

When you said if you want to work in the medical field but you don't like blood or needles, I was like exactly!! But as a PT or PTA how do you avoid getting sick from patients that might be sick, or what if a patient has an infection? Do PT/PTA always wear gloves when treating patients? What precautions do they take?

Salaries for PTs are shockingly lower than expected. Not sure why the field moved to a doctorate degree, rather than staying at the bachelor's level.

Also, mill clinics where you see a lot of patients and do not have time to do notes. You have to do your notes at home and are not compensated (paid) for doing them outside of work hours.

Do you need to be physically strong to be a physiotherapist? I'm very interested in this field but I'm not the strongest or sportiest person out there. I understand that one needs to be fit and healthy enough to lift or carry a patient but I can't even do push-ups... This is quite concerning to me.

DPT's should be respected way more. I've bn to therapy twice, i must say the pt helped me out a lot more than the Dr. Did. He just prescribed me useless ibuprofen. The PT & PTA's actually helped me recover. With that said, i dont think this career field is worth it, unless you go PTA. its 2 years total, less than 10k, and decent pay in my area and the home health jobs are awesome (seems that way anyway). Im shooting for the PTA program this year.

I failed out of DPT when i was 23. Was a blessing in disguise.
College in general is a scam.
Plenty of ways to make money today without college.

Is there hope for me on the field?

Great job on this! I’m a DPT and own a practice, and I would tell any young person NOT to enter this field. I do ok, but it is a constant battle to be paid. I only stay afloat because most of my patients pay cash because I am specialized in vestibular rehab. If you are not specialized( which takes extra time in school and lots of money) expect to be paid less than your nurse friends….or find a wealthy spouse😅

When it comes to getting loans are there any specific sites you would recommend to do some research on and then have you noticed if people do public or private loans or if people do a mix of both? No worries if you do not feel comfortable sharing.

You should have test back in undergrad that will show you options where you should place you foot in the door. Cost of PT program same as commercial pilot. Would you be a pilot or PT? Now you know you are going to be PT😊
