Another great review as always, JM! Glad to see that this resource is not biased and fairly brings up different viewpoints. Also thank you for the cautionary note toward word studies. I agree! Though they can be extremely helpful and illuminating, I have seen some terrible things said from the pulpit because someone—who has no grasp on Greek or Hebrew—truly thought they discovered something new and significant.

22:53 - 2 Peter 3:8 is a quotation of Psalm 90:4, so I think that's why it was included.

I am not a strict believer in just one version and own at least 7, including the ESV, NKJV, KJV, ASV, The New Living Translation, Douay-Rheims, NIV, and the Paraphrased Living Bible. I love all of them, but the KJV is the most beautifully poetic verse I have read and promotes a deep meditational spirit of thought for me. Without comparison, the Bible can be short-cheated of it's true character and meaning. I enjoy all the videos you include in your series reviews. Thanks Dojo.

My hope that people who haven't studied Hebrew and Greek can get more benefit from them than the harm they get—that hope has waned. In fact, I have almost no evidence that this benefit ever occurs. I assume it's out there, and I haven't worked too hard to find it. But I have made some appeals, and what I get back is paltry. And mostly wrong. =| I've heard what I think are good and careful uses of Hebrew and Greek *in preaching that is accessible to laypeople.* That's what my mentor did for the 18 years that I was in his church (age 16 to 34). But even he fell prey occasionally to word study fallacies, and I wonder how often he really needed to mention any Hebrew and Greek words out loud. So I share your wariness in this video. On initial inspection, it looks like the word studies were fairly carefully done, however?

I’m not a KJV only fan. I just enjoy the language it uses but I also have a few other translations I use for studying.

I am glad you said you’re not anti King James because I was beginning to wonder for a moment there. I am a former King James only but I learned all my memory verses in it and still quote it, even though I may explain some words. I had a good KJV study bible that gave good information on antiquated words.

33:35 what version do you recommend as your regular study bible? if one doesn't speak greek and hebrew, that is.

It has a beautiful cover, I’ll give it that! But you’re right, the more time goes on Elizabethan English becomes more obsolete. Thanks for exemplifying that with the word ‘Dread’

Excellent review! I do have all the popular study Bibles and I I refer to them all often as I study the Word and I love them. However - when it comes to trying to the abundance of translations can make things confusing to me. It seems that the KJV is the smoothest and easiest for me to memorize. Anyway that's my thoughts, but as far as a favorite translation.... well after 45 years of serving our Lord.... I still don't have one - they are all good ~ if one minds to simply just read Amen?

Really enlightening review, not only about the KJV Word Study Reference Bible itself, but also your helpful commentary about KJV English, the KJV original preface (available free online), Greek/Hebrew transliterations, and "Word Study fallacies." Did you say whether they include the original Hebrew/Greek words (which I prefer), or just transliterations? Thanks!

Great review! Wait, how about “she waxed poetic about …”? That’s about the only time I’ve seen the term “waxed” used (on SM) and I always giggle at that use of it. Yeah, that isn’t a Bible I’d use & so thankful for STEP Bible, etc. I wish the Bart Bible app was on IOS, but I guess I can get out my dreaded laptop for it.

It's bizarre how so many KJBs include the dedication to King James but not the preface to the reader explaining translation decisions: completely backwards.

I was curious about this Bible as I've never understood the use of word study Bibles and because I was amused that a translation that prided itself on not being held to a single English word each time the same word in the original languages was used was made the base text for a word study Bible. Turns out I didn't see the appeal of word study Bibles as I'm so used to using the electronic resources you mentioned that these study Bibles don't add much value to how I read the Bible.

One thing I like about my Tomas Nelson KJV Bibles are center column references that have dictionary references for different words, not sure if this one does that?
I trust the TR that’s why I use the KJV I also use NKJV and NASB 1977 and 1995 with that said I sick mostly to KJV because it doesn’t update every 10 years or so so I don’t lose ability to memorize scripture. All 3 versions use at italics print for added words and the NKJV capitalizes He, Him when talking about divine. I only wish other translation would actually keep the ye, thee and tho so one can be positive if it’s singular or plural, Maybe modern version should use ya all, (south of Masion Dixon LL one) All ya (Texas), You’s ( Pilly PA) or Yuns (Pittsburg PA) 😆

Just a thought, The KJV is ONLY Bible that is NOT copy written by men. Only maps and supplementals are copy written. So we can copy the KJV.
