"I took Sol Ring out of my ninja deck because it was too slow."- My roommate. It never fails to stun players at our FLGS when he says it.

Out of my 30+ decks, I have *one* that I don't run Sol Ring in on purpose. It is Chulane, and the deck has no artifacts or enchantments because one of the things it tries to do is get Bane of Progress out as an asymmetrical wipe. The deck ramps purely in creatures and lands, so Sol Ring's absence isn't really a big deal.

I actually made a Lazav, Dimir Mastermind/Garuda deck for a companion contest theme on Archidekt last year. It's honestly such a fun restriction to build by that even when I budget cut it down into something I could actually buy I really didnt want to remove that restriction.

forest or island if youre talking about The most played card in edh counting each copy in a deck

Here I thought the answer was forest or island. Take 5 random command decks and you'll have 4 or 5 sol rings, yes, but you'll also have 20 or so forest or island cards!

I have an Estrid, the Masked deck with no artifacts. The enchantment ramp is fantastic.

I have found that on many occasions I don't really need sol rings especially when I have a better way to get a color of mana I actually need. I completely understand that it is possible for me to turn my first turn into a six mana drop turn with a sol ring without much trouble however I have always been of the opinion that it's a much better plan to have a more expensive mana rock that gives another benefit than to have a sol ring.

Some examples of this is Chromatic Lantern, thought vessel, empowered autogenerator, replicating ring. These will typically be much more helpful if I have a need for more than one or two mana colors. If I have a need for three or less I typically will make use of the diamonds or one of the many other cards that can provide only one too three mana colors for two mana. The next thing is that many times I don't really have a absolute need for certain things to work extremely quickly in a deck for a win to be secured.

A few good examples of this are my dragon deck, gods, shrines. I do however have decks that will either win within the first few rounds or not ever. These decks have a few things in common and that is an absolute focus on a win condition. My most consistent and generally good decks are the most random ones or the ones that are simply intended to be versatile they might have a theme and it's quite likely that I will choose the theme over functionality which actually typically makes the design more capable.

My most focused decks are my most likely to have one or two win senerios that require the most speed or luck to win. These decks are those like my rat deck which until fairly recently had only a very limited system to win that was almost exclusively through unblocked rat swarming. With a few new additions to the card pool the deck now has three different options for ways to ignore the opponents blocks or otherwise make it substantially higher risk for them not to block.

For the longest time I didn't play it because I hated artifacts but eventually learned how awesome they are and got over my grudge

I don't run it in any green decks, I just have so many other options for ramp that I prefer.

If you play at the wharf sol ring is banned. So are tutors, extra turns, storm count, fast dual lands, fetches, all mana positive rocks, most combos, Proliferation, poison can't go past 1, draw spells with no down side, landfall past 2 if you get more than 2 lands in a turn return all but one to your hand. Plus a lot more it's the ultimate hyper casual rule set if y'all want to know more look them up they have a 20+ page gdoc of rules and a long ban list. If you ever get bored or want a challenge build a wharf friendly deck it's fun~

Gyruda and Keruga companion decks can't legally run Sol Ring. I know because I've recently built a Bolas Ravager/Gyruda deck. Umori companion decks can run Sol Ring only if they are artifact/land only decks.

I have 25 commander decks and one doesn't run sol ring. It's a codie vociferous codex deck that aims to use shape anew to sac codie and hit thrummingstone and then ripple dragon's approach. The thrummingstone is the only artifact in the deck because of that.

I don't run sol ring in my meren deck, only because it's so consistently able to ramp so incredibly well that I never even thought to include it

The painbow deck paired with smu didn't include it, which I appreciated.

In my playgroup we banned sol ring and crypt just because: land, sol ring, arcane signet, one drop happened nearly every game. I think it made the meta much healthier and makes deck construction a little bit more creative.

I had a yedris deck that was so color intensive that sol ring ramp just was not doing anything for me I needed colored ramp more plus the cascade aspect of the deck helped.

We table banned sol ring.
Youd be surprised what other impactful plays you can do on turn 1 and still blow out the game

The 16% is comprised of companions, yes, but also the giga chads who dont run rocks in their landfall decks.
