When I was a kid and played this game with my mom, she'd always joke that Altaïr's heavy equipment weighed him down and was what caused him to drown. It made sense at the time, but Altaïr drowning in large bodies of water because of an Animus glitch makes more sense, to be honest.

Altair drowning has been questionable, though, I cannot be so sure whether people do swim in Altair’s era or not. Either a glitch in the Animus or not, Ubisoft should have included/allowed swimming in Assassin’s Creed 1.

in fact, you use the new Animus 2.0 in AC2, so with Ezio you can finally swim :D

It would be better if it was because Desmond can't swim, preventing full synchronization, and he learned the ability in AC2 through the bleeding effect and prolonged exposure to the animus.

Now that's a better writing. That's the different between can't swim and teleportation. It's crazy they compare animus glitch not with another animus glitch but with a completely different thing which is Peace of Eden 🤦

An animus glitch was just dumb and inaccurate for me. Altair not knowing how to swim made sense cause people didn’t know how to swim till centuries later

I doubt that, knowing how lazy ubisoft is, of unfinished products, i just bet they did not want to incorporate swimming, now that is probably an excuse they used in AC 2 to prove why altair did not swim. Same goes for odyssey, you have super human powers like jumping off a cliff and surviving, and what was their excuse? Kassanda owns the spear of leonidas, therefor, invincible. lol

I didn't even know why altair couldn't swim in water the first time i played assassins creed one i hooked it up and yes it because of that bug in the Animus altair knows how to swim in water he just can't swim in water because of that bug
