Twenty-five-year-old Adele Stevens, is hoping to have her menopause reversed. When she was just 22, Adele was diagnosed with a rare form of bone and soft tissue cancer called Ewing sarcoma. With many chemotherapy treatments one of the side effects are fertility problems but Adele, who has one child, was determined to have another child further down the line.
She underwent a cutting-edge treatment prior to chemotherapy. The procedure is called ovarian cryopreservation in which ovarian tissue is frozen to save for future infertility treatment.
According to the support charity The Daisy Network, premature menopause affects roughly one in every 100 women under 40, one in every 1,000 women under 30, and one in 10,000 under the age of 20.
