How does this align with one of your previous videos that said in the type of industry you are in, there is an expectation to work harder and longer which includes weekend working?

Perfectly respectable take
"I don't want to pay for it, or exploit you, so go home for today let's chat tomorrow"

I reckon this raises morale quite a bit.
Knowing that there's no looming threat of missing out on personal time / free time

'I'd rather hire anither person' is so refreshing to hear. Most employers would rather overwork the employees they have than hire someone new to actually make sure the workload is adequately distributed.

I had a boss early on who told me 2 very important things re: compensation/pay. 1: Do not work for free. Your labor is a product you are selling, not a charitable contribution, and asking you to work for free is illegal. 2: Never *ask* for time off. PTO is part of your compensation package, just like your pay, not some favor the company is doing for you. Letting the office know when you will be gone within a set time frame is perfectly reasonable, but unless there are extenuating circumstances, your boss/supervisor shouldn't be telling you if you can take PTO any more than they should be telling you if you can cash your paycheck. And PTO should NEVER be cancelled once approved.

I really appreciate that Mike, Because people who work for you and realize that their time is valuable and that they shouldn’t do anything for free.

I get overtime too much, in fact I got overtime today. I would die of joy if my boss was strict like that, leaving early is a surreal feeling

I work from home. My shift is from 10PM to 7AM M-F. I hit the power button on my laptop at 10PM. Then shut down at exactly 7AM. I have alarms set for all my breaks/lunch and login/out. The only time I don't clock them at exactly the right time is if I'm in an active call. As soon as that call is up, I go into the break/lunch and start a timer or clock the extra minutes if it's after 7am as overtime. I may work from home, but I follow that schedule down to the minute. They don't get free time from me.

Love the honesty "I don't wanna pay overtime"
Yeah if you're a bad boss your employees aren't be as productive as they could be during the hours you're actually paying them for

My biggest concern with this is the grace period for 'clocking in.' Employers tend to use digital clock-in systems of one kind or another to register when their employees are actually 'on' the clock.
As such, and Especially if these devices have to service a series of employees who wait in lines to use them, there needs to be a grace period where they can clock in either late or early by a few minutes to actually enable practical usage of these systems.
Which leads to issues, as this means some employers will consider you 'late' if they allow an 'early' grace period, so even if you're in the building if you don't manage to clock in by start time they still count you as 'late' if you're over by a minute, etc.

I really appreciate this, because wage theft is a $50 BILLION issue in this country. Employers are not paying people for their work too regularly, including what Mike talks about with 15 minutes before normal hours, or breaks, or cleanup time after.

Think for a moment what $50 BILLION would do for people living on less than $50, 000 a year. In some cases, wage theft adds up to a third of what should be their income.
In Missouri, where I live, stealing up to $10, 000 in wages is treated the same criminally as stealing a $600 motorcycle (property theft). Tell me how those laws are “justice?!”
This country is so punitive towards poor people, and dirty about keeping them poor.

This is good as long as you aren’t requiring them to show up earlier while still off the clock

💯 AGREE!
My queries are…What if the company follows a 5-minute “grace period” that allows employees to clock in/out 5-minutes before/after their scheduled shifts.
Does the company expect employees to start work @0810 or @0815?
Are employees considered “late” if they clock in within the “grace period” (ie, clock in within 0815 and 0820)?
Can the company pick and choose the “grace period” terms in their favor, especially if the employees are not their kind (ie, a particular group of employees are targeted to be written up for “tardiness”—punch in @0817–the manager’s pretext is that the “grace period” only applies to clocking in 5-minutes before the scheduled shift, not after)?
Jsyk the targeted employees are from a particular ethnic group that the management team is not.
Asking for a friend. Thank you. 🙏

I was full time at my old job in a base and they kept holding me until my work was done. The next week, they demanded I go home early because I was about to hit overtime. The week I did hit overtime, they said they wouldn’t pay since it was unauthorized. I hated that job. They broke so many rules. 10 years, not even a $2 raise. 2007-2017. Started at $7.25, left at $9.11. I’m making $15.06 at my new job and about to get another raise.

Every employer I've worked for is relaxed about work hours. You just track your hours and you are allowed to go +-40 hours in total. If you get extra hours in, you are free to take shorter days or even days off if there is nothing critical on that day. The system works and makes work life balance so much easier. But this is in Finland and they are all office jobs.

I was angry until you said "hire another worker"
That's the best answer ever, and i wish i could like the video twice.

I respect you for that. You admit that you don’t wanna pay overtime so you don’t want people to work overtime.

This is happening at my job right now. We all used to work 50+ hour weeks now they hired so many people we are getting less than 40. In a business its a smart idea make more money on our end it pretty trash we are almost part time at this point
