Not a viable solution. Employers shouldn’t be allowed to force overtime and must be granted consent from the employee. An employee’s time after regular hours doesn’t magically become an employers time just because they want it to be and the employee happens to still be at work. By that logic employers could just keep employees at work nigh indefinitely as long as they had suitable “lunch” breaks.

This should be changed. Blatant overreach of capital.

this entirely depends on state laws. in my state, employers can't force hourly employees to work after their scheduled shift ends. they have to agree to it.

During the job interview:
1. Negotiate salary
2. Ask the employer to describe the workplace environment.
3. Hope there is a disgruntled employee.

and there is a max number of hours without proper notice and a max number of hours with proper notice. number of hours and notice time depend on state.

IMPORTANT: the us has essentially 50+ small countries with their own rules. The federal government sets the bare minimum and states add rights to that. Your state, city, and county can change all of these rules.

Salary employees can also be entitled to OT. Exempt versus non exempt. Lazy content.
