So I watched the movie today - the movie I waited 20 years for. I guess I'd describe it a little like this. You have two lego kits. You've lost the instructions and they are all in pieces. You try to rebuilt the kits from memory, but when you're done it ends up being one kit and there are parts left over and some of it looks exactly like it should, and the rest is different. It's not bad, but it's not right either. It's something a little old and a little new. I understood what they were attempting to do with their adjustments, and it is by no means a perfect movie (read, too much plot and too little character development), adaptational issues aside, but I also watched it with people who had never read the books and they liked it, so they served as my objectivity. Sure it has issues, but that was definitely confined to script treatment. The actors and director did a good job with the material they were given. I love the books dearly, and had I not have read them, I'm sure I would have liked the movie more than I did. But it definitely isn't the shit show the critics are making it out to be.

I was sad that the movie was different, but I really liked the actors! I also know that movies don't usually look exactly like the book, so I wasn't really expecting it to. The kid who played Artemis is really cool! I was glad they found a good person for the role :3
