In Episode 514: Terror In The LBL, we are joined by Martin Groves, a retired sheriff who has recently begun sharing his harrowing encounter in the Land Between The Lakes (LBL) from 1993. Martin, accompanied by his hunting partner, who was also a police officer, embarked on what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend hunting trip in this scenic region. However, as nightfall descended, tranquility gave way to tension.

Martin vividly recounts the chilling experience of being stalked on his way back to their camp, where his partner awaited. That fateful night, a series of dramatic events unfolded, revealing that they were being pursued by three upright-walking dogmen. One of these creatures boldly entered their camp while the other two lurked menacingly in the shadows. Fearing for their lives, Martin and his partner opened fire on the creatures and fled to their truck, only to encounter more unexpected and terrifying beings.

Miraculously, Martin and his partner managed to escape with their lives, but tragically, another nearby hunter wasn't as fortunate. Following this traumatic ordeal, Martin devoted over two decades of his law enforcement career to quietly investigating similar encounters reported by people in the LBL. Today, in this two-part Overtime episode, he aims to share the extensive knowledge and connections he's acquired during this extraordinary journey.

Being a retired civil servant myself of 32 years started hunting at 11 years old and hunting LBL many times as well as living in Tennessee all my life you two guys are exactly who I need to talk to. I am planning a new YouTube channel myself, not for monetary gain or lord knows not for any kind of future celebrity status but to mainly gather as many more pieces to this puzzle as I can. Thank you for your podcast. I came on because of planet 412 mentioned you. I found these sites due to 2 cryptid encounters I had that really messed me up. One was seeing what looked like a werewolf running along the side of the road .... at 2 am. I had stayed way too late at my best friends visiting. I live very close to a provincial park. It was running on the side of the highway away from me. I was glad it was running away from me and I went into shock what I was seeing. I told my spouse and others and they told me it was probably a black bear. I know what I saw. It wasn't a black bear. It looked like a werewolf.

I had an experience with a dogman. I just graduated. From college with a bachelor's in wildlife biology. I didn't believe in anything strange. I was hiking and camping alone outside of Jasper, Canada and one night I had the most terrifying experience I was hours from my car. I definitely thought I was going to die.and disappear that night. I have Never.stepped foot in the woods since..I've been on a lifelong mission to get to the bottom of this

Camped at LBL once, late at night, walking dog around a campsite's parking lot, we saw the shine of a large pair of eyes through the trees, appeared to be set over 5-6 inches apart, we did NOT investigate.

My late ex step dad who taught me how to hunt in the 80s told me a story from LBL when he was bow hunting there in the late 70s, early 80s. He saw, from his tree stand, what he described as a huge, black haired looking creature with a wolf shaped head and body like a man, crawling up and over a ridge a hundred yards or more from him. He said it had its limbs stretched out and was crawling like a spider. Freaked him out and pretty sure he never hunted there again. He only talked about it one time and just acted like it was a wild thing to see but I think it really shook him up. So hearing this story from such a credible guy is confirmation to me. New to this channel, I wonder if the Big South Fork story / murders are on here ? Same kind of scenario. Note: I wrote this before hearing the entire video.

So I shared a post already but I want to go into a little detail of mine and my daughters experience. So i took daughter out hunting a couple days after Christmas 2021. We went to a wild life management area in Arkansas in a town called Des Arc. Having listen to bubbas story there are A LOT of similarities. So me and my daughter are walking along side this big lake and we decide to go to the back part of this lake on the other side of the levee and there’s a swamp down there. We find a big huge oak tree to sit under and we’re about 2030 yards from the swamp but we don’t have a clear view of it because the brush. So we’re sitting there it’s about mid day and all of a sudden we hear what sounds like a boulder being thrown in the water. My daughter asked if I heard that so we get up to go investigate and we didn’t see anything no ripples in the water to indicate where an animal or person has walked through so we decide to go sit back down. About 10/15 minutes pass and the same thing happens again but it’s even louder so we get up to go investigate again and this time I could kind of see where the sound was coming from so I’m thinking it’s a deer that is run through the water something is falling out of a tree so I brush it off and I tell my daughter not to worry about it. We go sit back down and maybe 20-30 minutes pass by and for the third time I hear and even louder splash in the water and at this time im a little worried about what’s going on. A few more minutes past and we hear the loudest howl either one of us has ever heard. We decide to stay where we’re at not to go investigate it. I’m not sure what came over me but I have this burning desire to look through my scope down my lane and upon surveying the area I find an old wooden crate and behind it I see the head of what looks like a wolf. I have a bead on it looking through my scope and I can tell it’s looking right at me. I watch it for what feels like forever and I’m starting to have the hairs on the back of my neck stand up because it’s not moving a muscle and it’s just deadlocked on me. I do not tell my daughter what’s going on I hand her my rifle and ask her to look at the crate and tell me what she sees. Not more than 5 to 10 seconds after she’s looking through my scope she says that she thinks it’s a dog and that she can tell it’s looking directly at her. Not sooner after she said that I have never heard her so scared in my life say that it just stood up on its back two legs. At this point I’m kind of freaking out because I don’t know what the heck is going on so I get my rifle back from her looked at the scope and I can tell that this object has moved around this crate it is peering over the top side of it it’s right arm resting on top of the crate I could see its left arm on the side of the crate and it looks like it’s getting ready to sprint towards us. at this point my daughter is in tears and is begging to leave. We stay there for another minute or two and I decide to get my phone out and snap a picture. It had to be at least a football field away may be a little further and after I snapped a picture I had my daughter my pistol my truck keys and I sent her up the levee first and I’m behind her scanning the area making sure we’re not being followed. We’re about a half mile to a mile away from my truck my daughter is running as fast as she could and I am behind her trying to again make sure nothing is following us. Just like Bubba said it was dead silent and we could hear something in the wood line to the left of us following us. We get in the truck and we sit there for a few minutes and discuss what we seen both of us tears running down her face scared to death realize what we seen. If anybody wants to picture that I took reply with an email address and I would love to send it to you. I’ve been in some very scary situation‘s wash my dad gets shot when I was a young kid But I have never been as scared as I was in that moment.

Let me say I have personally met Bubba AKA cop here talking and he is the most humbling, kind, open armed, loving person I have met in a long time and genuine.
I connected with him at the cryptid con here in Tn. He and his wife are just wonderful people.

Mr. Groves' ability to relay his experience is mesmerizing to say the least. A verbal illustration lacking excessive drama & theater that creates a visualization as if I were there. No doubt in my mind that he lived this experience, and I appreciate the courage it takes to come forward to tell his tale. There's so much more to this world that exists, that most people simply don't know about, which means that it can't be real. The truth will actually wreck many people's belief system like a 9.0 quake.

This gave me chills when he said he heard a big metal door noise. I have heard this sound many times at this one heavily wooded river side park where I live. I’ve always described it as a huge, old, rusty iron gate opening. It sounds like the noise is coming from above the trees. When I look up I see nothing. I tried to get this noise recorded in my phone but of course when I turn the phone on to record the noise stops

I had an experience in a wilderness area in Montana...I think Cedar Park.. I had a paralytic experience that it was impossible for me to move any part of my body until I started praying in my mind. Even at that it took a bit for the breakthrough. It could have been seconds, but felt slow motion...
All the hair on the back of my neck stood up, the level of fear is what completely was what shut my body OFF, I was still able to think which is what lead me to pray. Literally that paralization broke because I prayed and asked Jesus to help me which set me free.

I've had SEVERAL incidents similar to this, the reason why I do not camp in isolated wilderness any more; always at California State Parks (half price with my Senior Pass), and I sleep in the back of my Yukon XL, while me grandchildren sleep in their tents.
