Oh, wait, that was the ruins of the castle where he was? Far as I could tell, Kylo was just outside somewhere

Just wanted to point out that the Visual Dictionary also says these trees didn't grow by themselves but were planted by the followers of a Vader-worshipping cult.

If there's one thing the SW universe is notorious for - and pretty good at - it's retro-actively creating detailed descriptions, histories and practical purposes for anything and everything that exists in the movies, regardless of screentime.

I have a suspicion that JJ didn't really intend this to be Mustafar when he shot the scene.

Mustafar in ROTS: basically a planet full of lava
Mustafar in TROS: Australia....

When I seen the shot of the planet from space I was like "oh cool Mustafar" then it showed the planet on ground and I was like "oh nevermind"

WTF? Why would they even have that be Mustafar if they didn't explain it in the film? And what a missed opportunity! Could you imagine if Kylon had went into Vader's castle and retrieved the wayfinder there? Wait... THAT WAS Vader's Castle? WTF?

I guessed it was Mustafar from the establishing shot, but I just assumed it was a more varied landscape than we thought. It looked covered in ash, like the aftermath of a volcanic eruption.

So I guess that observation was kinda right, just in a less scientific way. The Vader Immortal connection is really cool.

Vader immortal and the Momin comic give two explanations for why Mustafar was ruined, but which one actually happened? Or is it possible they both did

Bruh thanks for telling us mustafar was in the movie. 👍

Why are all unpleasant planets in Star Wars are described as "being ruined in the past"? I mean, Tatooine was bombed, now Mustafar was scorched by dark side... But I mean, aren't most of the planets kinda unpleasant just because of being close/far away from the star or tidal heating? I mean, nobody ruined Venus with dark side, it's all greenhouse effect. Is the "green lush habitable world" a default thing in Star Wars? I don't really remember seeing any truly uninhabitable planets in Star Wars.

Why does Mustafar look different?

There are trees.

At least this confirmes that JJ had been been working with the story group. I'm so glad they included Mustafar how did it, making it feel very rewarding for those who know every tiny piece of Star Wars lore. It even being from a VR series which not something everyone played makes me very happy

I doubt J.J. Abrams planned that from the beginning. If he had, he'd have mentioned in it the movie and would've should ruins of Vader's castle.

Still, it's awesome to know about it now. I really hope to see more about Mustafar in future games or comics or even in the next movies.

Battlefront 2 fans keep clambering for Mustafar to appear in the game, and as of TROS, I think it might actually happen! Wouldn't that be awesome? Fighting in a forest of metal trees, Vader's Castle's ruins, and a nearby lava field. It's now an environment that isn't just "lava and stone."
