I'm a LONG time apple user (decades), and recently bought the GP66 with RTX 3080 processor. The GP66 port selection on this system was odd if not unfortunate result of MSI stratifying their systems (they could have done better). The MSI trackpad is adequate (nothing like apple's). In general, the MSI system works quite well for it's price-point which needs some discussion... I like the upgrade capability for memory and SSD drives which is nice to know. The MSI adapter IS massive (and you need it as the battery is used up quickly with higher graphics use). Unlike the new Mac, the MSI, while portable, is not remotely on par with the mac in weight and portability. I knew that and still bought it. Why? Price.

In Canada, it was selling at Costco for roughly $2500CDN with just $99 for a 3 year extended warranty -so $2599.
To get a Macbook Pro 16" with 32gig mem plus 1tb drive ads, your build would increase a minimum $750cnd, bringing the price closer to $4400cdn with Apple care for this system is being a whopping $419cdn more!!!!

So, yes the new Apple machine is awesome for battery life and data speed and it looks good in terms of processing power for software that's re-written for that particular chip (which software needs to be optimized for). Apple as usual has a beautiful, rugged design with more current ports.

It still lacks the graphic umph of a dedicated RTX3080, which my PG66 has and as such, I still think the GP66 is a tremendous bargain for what it does. A bit about my background to qualify my opinions - I'm a vetran VFX artist, member of the VES, ACCT, Siggraph, PromaxBDA and have worked in media creation since 1993. I didn't make the switch to PC lightly, but I'm not regretting it so far.

The MSI GP 66 does a great job with Adobe CC, Autodesk, Toonboom Harmony and other software I use, which is what I need.
It also nice that it plays AAA titles at top graphic levels without lag and works well with VR software.
This video does a nice job showing general capabilities and benchmarks, but benchmarks can be misleading. It be great to see real life comparisons of software running with timed results, but do we really need that? If you wish to spend $4k on the mac - go for it.

How you use what, is a personal decision, and that is where you should start. At the end, buy what you feel you can afford, be aware of the limitations of both systems (ports vs dedicated raytraced 3080) and be sure you pick relative to your *production* needs.
Both are capable good machines - with the mac being far more portable.

To the content creator of this channel, thanks for your efforts. Good video and thanks for posting.
Quick questions - the video cam on the MSI *does not support Windows Hello* - which sucks frankly.
And... was the graphics for your tested GP66 a 3070?
Good luck everyone - be nice to each other.

Didn’t the Geekbench people say that the M1 Pro/Max scores for their GPU compute test was not accurate? They were saying that the tests completed so quickly that they couldn’t ramp up the GPU’s to get a good accurate score.

What? He only compared the specs and benchmark, not the actual performance?

why not compare macbook to the qhd model of gp66?

1:02 Hang on a minute, there's no TB4 port on the MSI? I thought all 11-gen Intel laptops had at least one TB4

7:11 Looks like a typo at the bottom there. Should be 12 thousand and not 15 thousand right? 😅

Good thing Alder Lake is coming soon. Preliminary leaked benchmarks are much more favorable... but a computer is a tool and you use the tool that best suits you. I feel like Apple channels compare against Windows PC's just to justify their purchase. Nobody has to justify a purchase if the tool you buy is the best one for you.

I have an MSi Gaming Laptop with an RTX 2060. the SSD that came with the laptop was much slower than the one I bought to go in the second slot. The Corsair MP400 drive I bought was 2x the speed of the one that MSi put in. They definitely cheaped out on the SSD, but for gaming, it is far fast enough to load games. When PCIe Gen4 hits laptops, it will significantly affect SSD speeds. PCIe 5 is close to release, too. That, again, will be much faster than PCIe Gen 4. Even though, I prefer macOS to Windows. Comparisons between th two platforms (the PC parts platform vs Apple) is just for bragging rights.   A good number of YouTube videos you see on non-Apple channels are done with PCs. The best tool you can buy for your hard earned money is the best tool for you regardless of numbers and benchmarks...

My secret: I refer to Windows as a "Game Launcher".

These completely different laptops Apple not actually a gaming laptop

So if this the lower end mod for the PC, I must've missed the price for comparable memory configured models. At what time spot do you reveal this?

how much you get paid for a flawed benchmark, who in the universe shows geekbench result as superior than cinebench, 3dmark, blender, vray, pugetsystem results?

The SSD tests cannot be compared because the MSI has a Gen3 PCIe bus and the MacBook Pro has a Gen4 comparable and that is why the SSD differences.
