Lots of people use a similar mix for marine use. One part boiled linseed one part spar poly and two parts mineral spirits. Although in the marine usage it needs extra poly/paint for uv protection

I was wondering if this would work. Thanks for figuring it out and doing it.

Going to try this today! I make wooden American flags and had been looking for a good finish, since I like keeping the natural look of the wood but still want to protect the wood. Ty!

Thats a great finish....yes on the fire danger. I laid some rags out to dry on the driveway in the shade and a couple hours later I found them smoking!

Pro tip: wipe on poly is just normal poly.cut 50/50 with mineral spirits. Make your own its way cheaper that way

Yes it is a good mix: treats the wood, brings out the beauty of the wood and adds some protection.
The formula is actually the recipe for Danish Oil :)

Is this a “better” finish than applying linseed oil and then a separate polyurethane coat or is does this just make it a one step process? Thanks

Can you apply this mixture to a stained wood? Would the mineral spirits remove the stain?

Hey Jeff. This is a great idea. Is it possible to paint over this with an oil/enamel based paint? I am wanting to put a finish like this on a board game I have made for my kids, but need to paint a lines between holes on the board. Thanks for the great idea

Being that polyurethane is oil-based, and is notorious for yellowing overtime, however, with this mixture combination, do you have that problem as well? Yellowing?

Good concise and informative video. Is your home brew finish suitable for exterior cedar planks and railings?

Does the poly have to be oil based, or can I mix in water based poly instead?

Great video! Would this be safe for a cutting board? And would you ever consider putting a Sanding Sealer on first?
