I just started making my own, I use beeswax pellets and Tung oil in 2 cups oil to 1/2 cup of wax I use a slow cooker to heat up, and an turkey baster to fill the cans.

I started making mine with raw linseed (aka flaxseed oil). 2 to 3 parts oil to 1 part wax. When I started woodworking (mostly carving), my first source said to use raw linseed oil to be food-safe. I started adding wax later. I let the wax sit for at least 4 hours, I prefer overnight, and then wipe off the excess.

More wax to oil (2 to 1 or 1 to 1) both make great tool waxes. I use 2:1 for my hand planes and saw blades. I use 1:1 for most other tools.

Based on your video, I'll try 4:1 oil to wax for my next batch of" board butter."

I've got food grade beeswax and mineral oil sitting in the barn for over a year now, procrastinating on making a cutting board finish. I can't thank you enough for sharing this. Thank you! ...I'd might try this on my next set of knife scales also!!

Perfect just what I was looking for. I wanted to put coconut oil in my mixture and no harsh chemicals. I plan on using it on my cold ceramic planter pots. So you can see I don't want my plants to die from the wrong ingredient in the mix. Thanks for sharing this. I appreciate it.

That looks great! Just make sure to mention that there is coconut oil in the finish, since lots of people are allergic to tree nuts.

I’ve been using Odle Oil for a long time but at $54 for a small bottle I’m all in on your recipient. Thanks for your insight!

How would this finish hold up over time on furniture such as a coffee table?

I'll be trying this on a turning; can't imagine it not working on a spinning piece.

I have tried to mix beeswax, tung oil and linseed oil which came out very nice. I will try your formula to compare. Thanks

I have a suggestion for you. I made a mixture of beeswax and jojoba oil. At 1:4 or 20% beeswax. Jojoba oil is actually a liquid wax.
I used nothing else. Try it on your tablesaw as well. 😊

The three ingredients I use in my polish are beeswax, carnubia wax and orange oil., food safe and nice smell, use a lot less of the carnubia about 25% of the beeswax amount.

Why didn’t you weigh each ingredient so you know precisely how you made the best product

I love that board. Do you sell and ship to Australia.

Would Essential oil be better than fresh lemon?

I used bar oil because home depot had no mineral oil. It had some red in it, but it just darkened up my maple to something like an oak. Before anyone goes mental about food safety I am using it for a quarterstaff and it's meant to hurt. It looks good doing damage though, nice.

After having a jar of coconut oil go rancid, I would not use it in any wood finish. Don't know if you could get the smell and mold out of the wood if it goes bad.

JUst an opinion, some coconut oils will go rancid so I would be cautious.
Does coconut oil go rancid on cutting board?
You should not use any type of cooking oil on your board, such as olive oil, vegetable oil, or regular coconut oil, because they will go rancid. Also keep in mind that excess moisture is bad for wood.

Instead of adding in lemon juice into your paste mix why not just use orange oil? Replace both the mineral oil and lemon juice with orange oil and you get the equivalent polish. The orange oil helps clean the surface and smells great too. There is also lemon oil if you prefer lemon scents instead.
Could you do another video with carnauba wax too? Thanks!

If you add diatomaceous earth you will have created an abrasive paste to match Yorkshire Grit and much cheaper.
