Rest of story:

The teachers and principals all understood what Jim was up against. There's no way they didn't know how miserable he was. But school is a lot like prison. The people in authority don't actually care what happens to you. All they want is for your shit to stay off of them. As long as you don't make your problems their problems, they're fine with whatever.

So, Jim was left to twist in the wind. As victims always are.

A few years after graduation, Jim was in the news. He had robbed a convenience store and then gotten shot to death by the cops. The news coverage mentioned a "troubled childhood filled with violence". But I was around for a good bit of his childhood. And on my watch, except for one occasion, the "trouble" and "violence" were completely one-sided.

Jim couldn't get a fair deal even in death. Even the news media had to pile on.

Teachers see this stuff and do nothing until the bullied kid reacts.
Suddenly they are forced to notice and usually take that out on the bullied kid.

Funny how it can happen to the bullies kid time and time again with nothing done about it, but as soon as the bullied kid fights back he’s expelled.

And when they snap they get called psycho. Because the quiet awkward kid that doesnt bother or hurt anyone is a psycho and the kids torment and fucking with them for no reason are deemed normal

I hate the school system's way of "handling" bullying and the bully victims. Somehow, the victim always gets punished, and the bully always has the last laugh 90% of the time.

It needs to change.

The victim could hold off and do nothing about being bullied but takes the massive mental toll. So no matter what, the victim always loses.

the only time I snapped was when teachers and students talked behind my back talking crap about my parents and I... lets just say nobody wanted to go to school the next day after I exposed the teachers and students for allowing bullying and the school had to stay all day until dismissal to listen to the superintendent talk about how childish everyone was to me and re-evaluated everyone on how bullying is against the rules when I graduated I gave the superintendent a huge gift basket with a card saying "thanks for having my back, ma'am" she thought I was going into the military after I graduated

I got bullied most of my childhood and teenage years, because I wore glasses since the age of 4. Some teachers told me I was the one to provoke bullying. Never understood that wearing glasses could possibly provoke bullying

People cant stand up and wont stand up for others because once you do, bullies will focus on you instead like what I've experienced for years. But those who have power against them, why wont they help? Ridiculous isn't it.

People will hear stories like this and then wonder why school shootings happen
(Not saying it’s justified, just saying that people treat others horribly, expecting that they won’t do anything about it)

One of my friends had apparently been being bullied although I didn't know how much. One day, me and her were sitting on a couch our art teacher had in her room when these boys at a table behind us started kicking the back of the couch. To me it was mildly annoying and I was used to it since these same boys picked on me in a similar fashion, she, however, found it to be the last straw. We had tried to tell them to stop but they didn't, then one of the main instigators got up to do something she decided to do something about it. She got up, followed behind him, clenched her fist, and did a wide inward swing into the back of his head. My memory gets a bit foggy after that but I do remember that the whole class burst into laughter, she got in pretty deep trouble, and they picked on us a lot less after that.

Has happened to me before teachers are more then willing to turn a blind eye to a bully but as soon as you punch back automatically your in the wrong for resorting to violence.

Bullying is only a problem when you fight back! No matter where school, work, out in public etc! I wish i could say i wasnt speaking from experience but I am!

Bullying is one of the most underrated crimes. It ruins lives, often multiple ones, with often little to no repercussions to the bully.

We have a serious cultural attitude problem in the US. We have politicians and parents defending bullying as "natural". We should be better than this.

I would have sued the school
For allowing the bullying of Jim to go on as long as it did

I had something like that happen. People just can't leave well enough alone.

What’s sad, is they didn’t help Jim, and just allowed it to continue. Shame

litterly same as soon as you defend yourself the school says you were always the problem. thankfully his parents knew he was a little prick.

The worst part is that the bullied kid gets it either way. Teachers know exactly who the bullies are. Hell dropping of my cousins and nephews i can tell who the bullies are at their school. Everyone knows, the faculty just doesnt care until a lawsuit happens. Tbf to the parents they have a right sue because the school should have corrected their kid long before it happened, however what happened to the kid is diserved
