Many stories have been told about the glory years of the Indian national football team. But none of them are as famous, or as untrue, as the 1950 World Cup story. Why didn't the Indian team play at the 1950 World Cup? Was it because they played barefoot football, or was it something else? Together with Budweiser India, we're telling the story of the World Cup match that didn't happen.

Dr. T Ao from Nagaland was the lad who captained the Indian team in the Olympics. His famous quote, "we play football, not boot ball". He was offered a contract from Arsenal FC however due to his medical studies he had to reject the offer.

I started following Indian football from 2006, comparing to that time yes Indian Football is definitely improving but the world football is improving with much more speed. Our players are not bad they just did not receive the proper training and coaching, there are 100s of indian origin players playing around the world just because they got the coaching right.

In North East India, actually football is much more cherished than the usual cricket. The tribal people there are absolutely amazing players.

My friend is a football fanatic and he's someone whom I admire and because of that I started to have an interest in football too. Where I live(North East, India) football is more popular than any other sports here and I hope it will be popular in all over India too

Now I feel proud that even for nothing, I played football tournament in my journey school and after losing in semifinals, it was a great moments for us. And in my area many colleges, schools, government are giving their best in bringing football back to India and if you guess which state is doing it than it is west Bengal. People are crazy for football in Bengal and again football tournament is going to start in many parts of West Bengal.

The first India captain in their maiden international tour was Gostha Pal, organised under the control of Indian Football Association (Bengal) before the formation of All India Football Federation in 1937. The first captain to lead India in their first AIFF organised international tour was Karuna Bhattacharya, kolkata who captained India in their first international match, against Australia on 3 September 1938.
