Excerpt from the album's liner notes:

"It so happened that I write this manuscript in midst of the Tokyo Summit. I am feeling somewhat discouraged about all the fuss that is being made about this meeting which has a conclusion from the start. But, seeing TV and other mass media carry serious debates about what Japan, who has now become an export giant, should do to prevent herself from being orphaned from the rest of the world, I can not refrain myself from thinking about it. I am struck by two deep emotions: Japan has come a long way; she still has a long way to go. My concerns are in relation to the music industry, which is far from being a star like the export industry. The music industry is completely pro-import. Especially, there are great influxes from English speaking countries like the United States and Great Britain. Although promoting export has been one of the primary concerns of this industry, successes are only countable. When it comes to international recognition, Isao Tomita, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Sadao Watanabe and YMO(disbanded) are about the only ones.

The situation, however, is beginning to change recently. The Japanese are producing albums that have originality in their plans. They are also, at last, getting the hang of how to work on album productions with foreign musicians in the country of the artists' origin. In many cases, they are applying this practice on jazz albums. Their plans include such things as selecting top level musicians, reuniting bands, and reviving old musicians or discs. Albums produced on such unique ideas are gaining popularity abroad and record shops in various localities are beginning to install a section for those albums produced in Japan. The album we have here is of such a kind. It was planned and produced by Japanese and performed by the selected, genuine performers. Its heart, let's say is Contemporary Brazilian Fusion.

...The newly recorded album, LA TRANSIT reflects these qualities of Brazilian fusion. The album was produced by the leader of Spics (former Spics and Span) Kazuo Yoshida who continues to pursue Brazilian rhythms and producer Daihachi Kojima. They selected some of the best Brazilian musicians including Sergio Mendes's members and for keyboards, synthesizers and arrangements, they selected Yutaka Yokokura. It is a well done album with Bossa Nova classic numbers and some original tunes, It's the real thing, yet is very LA-ish in that the tunes are fun and relaxing.

The songs include MAS QUE NADA, AGUA DE BEBER, and PRETTY WORLD, the hits of Sergio Mendez. WAVE, HOW INSENSITIVE, and AGUA DE BEBER are the works of Antonio Carlos Jobim (born: Rio, 1927), one of the founders of Bossa Nova and one thought to be its godparent. MAS QUE NADA and ZAZUEIRA are the works of Jorge Ben (born: Rio, 1942) who is also very popular as a singer. TRISTEZA was written by Niltinho (lyrics) and Harold Robo (music) in 1966 and is a classic of marsha indispensable to the carnivals of Brazil. Wrapping up is a chorus number by the whole group. Beside these, three other original tunes are included. All songs are quite marvelously done."

I'd love to know who the recording engineer was. The result is sensational...so transparent, warm and brain massaging, without the slightest hint of unpleasant peaks! I have never heard better. I would like to personally congratulate him/her. I would also love to find a contact email for Yutaka Yokokura. His keyboard voicings and solos are spiritually uplifting and transporting, to say the least!

I first discovered this record in 2013 even though it was recorded in 1986. It's now 2024 and Just now am realizing, this was produced here in Japan!!

Of course, as usual, everything I love is made right here.
