Sir... actually pandyas were the one who were highly interlinked with sengol.. silapatikaram, an old tamil literature speaks about conversation between kannagi and pandya King where the priority of sengol that pandya dynasty gave can be noticed...as that king had done injustice to kannagi and when he felt it ... he was dead onspot and he stood sengol(justice) firm!! Pandyas are more attached with sengol than cholas.. Excellent presentation sir.. Tq from Tamil Nadu!

Passing on the power symbolically through a Danda is much older than Chola rule. In Pattadakal, Karnataka, a temple belonging to the times of Pulikeshin II shows a relief art of a character holding a Danda identical to Sengol, complete with Nandi on the top. In the Kannada print media, this image was circulated for a couple of days.

Anyway, Rajadanda has always been a symbol of authority and power. Even the police commissioners and DGPs pass on the baton to the successor. Why not pass on Sengol after every Loksabha election to the new PM?
