In this Tutorial #30 I cover:
-How to add the Array modifier to an object
-How to create a sequence (line) of identical objects
-How to create a grid of identical objects
-How to apply the array modifier so that all objects are 'real', and how to quickly separate all objects into separate meshes and correct all origins.
-How to use an Offset Object (an 'empty') to offset or curve a line or grid of objects.

Did you know you can create CURVED arrays, and arrays in 3D spiral patterns? Watch this tutorial through to the end to find out how!

As a programmer, I appreciate your 'cubbies vs bookshelf' analogy to explain the difference between one and two dimensional arrays. I'm always finding myself thinking of seemingly silly ways to remember concepts like that, but hey whatever works. Just thought I'd let you know I'd be so lost in Blender without your tutorials. Keep up the excellent work!

Thank you for making this video. I've been struggling with this for several days and watched / read multipul tutorials. This is the one that I was finaly able to follow.

Bad ass video man. I learn by understanding what something is doing, not just that it does something, and the empty description with the cursor explanations and how tos really helped me.

Great tutorial i have been wondering what this does

How about a part two: using curves to curve the array. Example: a basic belt made from a curve with bevel. You want to add studs all round it. The curve is off the floor, and has a scale other than 1. Studs also have a scale other than 1. How to get them to follow the curve, along the belt.
Great tutorials btw! Very imrpessed!

Can you use the array along a path? Say I wanted to have spines down a monster's back created as copies of a single spine that moves with the monster, is the array modifier the way to do that?

this will probably save a lot of time compared to duplicating each one

Im running 2.7.3. every video on on youtube array somehow fails to make a simple circle.  Are there specific settings that the program has to be started with for the normal use of all things blender?

so can I create an animated walk cycle  and use the array modifier to create a marching croud?

Is cycles better because I never see you use blender render

OK...it was the xyz needed location of  o, o, o, and the scale needed to be xyz 1, 1, 1.
the empty goes in the center of the circle and the item we are arraying needs its 3D cursor to the center of the circle as well.  Then rotate and type degrees.   If this is not done then you get really weird results.Wah-lah
