I had an accident with an automatic hedgetrimmer at a job a couple years back, damn thing kicked back off a branch too thick for the blades and sliced right through my ring finger on my right hand. Long period of recovery, set me back a little bit on my bass playing. Bandmates were worried that I'd be unable to play like I used to.

It's been a year now, and there's scar tissue and some slight nerve damage, ring finger looks like it's got a lumpy butt cheek on its fingertip. The hardest part is trying to regain the ability to play with 3 or even 4 fingers on my right hand, but this finger tapping exercise may land me where I'd like to be as a musician.
