There’s a video going around where a guy justifies this budget by saying that tariffs will help us pay down the deficit. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work when people can’t afford goods and a $4.5T tax cut for the top 1% gets passed (hopefully it doesn’t).

Sam Seder and David Dayen must have these conversations, but the conversations we all should be having are those about ridding the country of Trump, and Vance, and all of the MAGA Minions in the White House. Congress should be considering the 25th Amendment. Budgets are meaningless as long as Trump remains.
Personally, I’ve binned all plans to spend money on anything but the few things necessary for my survival—food, shelter, and not much else. Economically, the damage is done. We’re doomed.

The "current policy baseline" tactic that Senate Republicans might try to use to knock the teeth out of the 10-year budget rule doesn't hold up under scrutiny, because the _sunsetting_ of the 2017 tax cuts is also part of current policy.
