Carole Lombard was once asked by an interviewer from LIFE Magazine how it felt to not only be so successful in the movie business but to also be married to the "King of Hollywood"... Clark Gable... "the love of her life." She glared back at the interviewer and quietly said: "Russ Columbo was the love of my life... and that is definitely off the record!" This information was kept in confidence until being ultimately divulged several years after Miss Lombard's passing. At the time of his death, Carole was in the process of converting to Roman Catholicism in order that she and Russ could have a church-sanctioned wedding.
