Carole Lombard was once asked by an interviewer from LIFE Magazine how it felt to not only be so successful in the movie business but to also be married to the "King of Hollywood"... Clark Gable... "the love of her life." She glared back at the interviewer and quietly said: "Russ Columbo was the love of my life... and that is definitely off the record!" This information was kept in confidence until being ultimately divulged several years after Miss Lombard's passing. As for her desire to hurry back to Los Angeles by plane instead of train... she had left on her War Bonds Tour immediately after having had an intense altercation with her philandering husband, Mr. Gable. No doubt she was anxious to return home to attempt to repair this marital rift. As for Gable... he was so jealous oof Carole's affection for the deceased Russ Columbo that he had MGM hatchet man Howard Strickling spread spuriously false rumors that Carole and Russ were just platonic friends... because Russ was gay. Nothing could have been further from the truth! At the time of his death, Carole was in the process of converting to Roman Catholicism in order that she and Russ could have a church-sanctioned wedding. There's a whole lot more to this story... but I'll leave it there.

She was good friends with Lucille Ball, the 4 of them, Carol, Clark, Lucy and Desi would get together all the time, mostly at Lucy and Desi's house near Vegas.

Mist beautiful woman, ever. She married womanizer and had to get home fast as Gable would be playing on a movie with Lana. Would have been better had she taken the train, finding one trist for hetself.

A tough but sweet & beautiful lady. I like the way she handled leacherous studio men who tried to sexually use her. Living in a continent that has so many people complaining about taxes, l really, really admire her intelligent concept of what taxes actually do. Would have loved to have met her just once!

I read in some biography that Lombard, as a joke, put a manikin of a blond woman in Gable's and her bed before leaving for Indiana. Can anyone verify this? Imagine the reaction of Clark Gable, having been informed of his wife's death, coming home to find THAT in his bed!

I couldn't listen to this content due to the computer voice and AI generated DEI tiresome unoriginal script. Listeners are weary of this trend and the sooner it stops, the better.
