I dined at Daniel's last week with Paul Allen. I had the peanut butter soup with smoked duck and mashed squash. New York Matinee called it "a playful but mysterious little dish." And then the red snapper with violets and pine nuts.

Impressive, very nice.. Have you heard of the Dorsia? It's a restaurant so catchy that most people don't get any reservation, but they shoud. Because it's not only about the pleasure of luxury and the importance of french cuisine, it's also a personal devotion about the chef himself.

A rarely known cause that increases price in such restaurants is that they usually serve caviar. The thing with caviar is that the head/top chef(s) will inspect each container of caviar (when it is delivered) and eat a full tea spoon off each. If there are 2 top chefs at the helm, they both eat it and call it the most exciting part of their day. You can see this in many youtube videos when they show the chefs going about their day. The cost of that is forwarded to customers. Owner type chefs might just taste a tiny bit of each container as quality control (to minimize cost), but hired chefs (not owner) will take full advantage of this "quality control". And you'd be paying for both their salary and their caviar.

I was in New York City for only one week, dined Tuesday at Per sé, Wednesday at Le Bernardin and Thursday at Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare. Ordered the Chef’s tasting menu at all three, all three have three Michelin stars, all three were amazing but for me…. Chef’s Table was the best.

I have dined several times at Daniel (ok but disappointing considering the chef's talent, hype and the prices), Le Bernardin (great value for money for seafood lovers), Eleven Madison Park (very creative cuisine that does not always work, but great experience nonetheless) and Per Se (consistently good and definitely worth the trip). Although not on this list, the Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare is another noteworthy restaurant worth going to. Finally, one of my favorite restaurants in NYC is Jungsik (creative Korean cuisine) definitely worth a trip.

When it comes to global cuisines, NYC is hard to beat, but for high-end gourmet cuisine, it does not come close to Paris. There are a dozen restaurants that are better than any restaurant in NYC.
