Carried Away is an exciting, perpetual-motion etude for intermediate piano students. The audience is given a ride across a harmonic landscape that features scales passages and arpeggiated first-inversion triads that makes students sound far more mature than the playing level of the piece. This piano solo would be ideal for a finale to a recital or a festival program because it gives students a chance to put their skills on display without feeling overwhelmed.

Carried Away is a mid to late intermediate level piano solo written in 2/4, which adds to the perpetual-motion feeling. The smallest note value is a sixteenth note, and the left hand plays a series of staccato notes. There are many accidentals and some modal inflections. The modal inflections consist mainly of chromatic movement that is exciting to hear and play, but very achievable at this level.
