Don't Cry (Orchestral Version) BOY GEORGE

"Don't Cry" was the first single from "Tense Nervous Headache", and a remixed / re-recorded version was included on "High Hat". I removed the drum and bass from the "Full Version" which highlighted both George's incredible one-of-a-kind vocal and the sumptuous orchestral accompaniment, and turned this song from an excellent)pop ballad to the work of fine art it always was- just hidden away under the disco grooves and drum machines. This was nothing like anything he had done on "Sold", and nothing like what the rest of the album(s) it was taken from, which might have made it a bad choice for a debut single. But it is a lot like "Victims" (especially the stripped down version he would play live on tour supporting this album), and anything compared to THAT song deserves very high praise.

All strings arrangements for the album were done by Anne Dudley from one of my UK favourite group "The Art of Noise". I was really happy when i've discovered the connexion betwen her and George. She's a brillant musician, composer and arranger. Not sure George was aware that he has been working with her (even if she was on Helen Terry lp "blue note", and she wrote the "Felidae" soundtrack on which George did the main track) and she contributes to many hits and great artists.

Can remember the way he swept on stage Manchester Apollo, Boy's Own Tour think it was 88 or 89. Entered from the right fast right across to the left of the stage. He also threw a silver neckalce with symbols, think they were ankhs into the crowd and they went mad lol.
