"I want a phone that suits my needs, not change my need to suit my phone"

Great phrase Jhon.

I agree that some people may find iOS boring. Definitely, nearly identical user interface for five years can be mundane. But beside this disadvantage, keeping consistent UI has many advantages. First, non-geeks don't have to relearn how to use a new OS. Second, an old iOS user can easily switch back from other OS. Third, it makes it easier for users to find out new features.

Jon, you have finally said what people who don't like apple's mobile products have said for years. I read in Steve Jobs' biography that when he was working on the Apple II, he said that the customer didn't know what they wanted and that Apple would tell them what they want. I know what I want Apple's philosophy has nothing to do with it.

He wasn't saying it's boring because it isn't customisable, he's saying it's boring because it's been the same for 5 years, and can't be changed.
Window's phone is still relatively new.

Watching this on my iPhone X and yep, it’s still boring

When I got my first smartphone in July of 2012, I got an iPhone. I always wanted to own an apple product. A friend of mine got the GS3 instead of an iPhone. I played with it, and from the second I opened the lock screen, I fell in love with the customization abilities that I didn't have in iOS. I immediatley went to swap my iPhone 4s out for a GS3, and I have never been happier. iOS 5, 6, 3, 2 whatever iOS you have, will be boring. No questions asked.

Windows Phone 8 is definitely the most interesting OS right now. Android has matured and we know where it's headed, but Windows Phone still hasn't matured fully and it's a completely different OS than every other phone OS out there. Taking into consideration that it uses the same kernel as Windows 8 on tablet and computers, you got a lot of potential.

So you can see the weather on your lockscreen? Read mails straight from your home page or lockscreen? That saves me at least a minute every day...

I agree that iOS has gotten a bit dull. I've been using iPhone since 2008 and there has been very little difference to the way I can interact with the OS. However what I do love is the speed, fluidity and reliability of the OS. That is why I'm not too upset about a lack of customization. Having said that I would like to see some cool new options in the months to come. iOS 6 hasn't had much in it so far to impress me.

I really don't understand a phone being boring. Personally, I don't play in the OS, I don't scroll between app pages just for fun, or just stare at the home screen. What makes the experience is for me is in the apps, which can be whatever they want. Windows has been relatively the same for like 15 years now, but it's the programs for which Windows is good for.

Yep, you're right. Real life example: Within my network of friends 8 out of 10 of them chose Android phones because they say it's customizable and those kinda things. However in the end, the only "customization" they did was changing the themes, they didn't even change the icon layout. And funny enough, almost all of them installed the iOS theme.

I love it when friends of mine try to show off their new iphones with their noses in the air thinking they have the best. Then I just pull out my htc sensation(which is old now but running ics...still looks fantastic). They see all the beautiful weather animations, widgets, live wallpaper..etc. and Im like "Yours cant do that?" LOL!

Not to mention screen size.

I've been an iPhone user since the 3GS came out and now days I also own an iPad 2. I agree with you Jon. My expectations on iOS 6 was sky high and then all I got was some new colors in the camera app, music app and the status bar changed colors. Google maps IS the best way of viewing maps. I am thinking of going over to the dark side after my 4S contract is over and buy a Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3.

If so many people agree with this video, why aren't more of them posting similar sentiment elsewhere? I'm so tired of tech reviewers who gush about the "beautiful" and "elegant" iOS, ignoring the fact that it's just icons in a grid. But hey, here comes the first big hardware change in forever: a bigger screen that will give you...another row of icons!!

This episode is great, thanks for saying things as they actually are!

I agree with this as an Apple fan and an iPhone user. iOS needs serious updates, there is just so much stuff left out of it.
