Props to admitting you learned this on YouTube. Everyone else acts like they already know everything and don't give credit to who they learned it from lol

I work for a company who does this with thicker materials to make what we call cans it’s called pre bending but normally we get a piece longer that what we like 15in on each side then lay out the stretch out then pre bend it then we trim the excess

For me, I don't care where you learned it. If it works, it works! Thanks for sharing this helpful tip.

Now I learned a new thing on Youtube to...😊

It is a simple solution to a frustrating problem.

Interesting. I typically make sure the stock is an inch or so longer than necessary and I cut it down later. The length all depends on the thickness of the material

Aunt Joanie's here and watched this!

I’ve done that as long as I can remember. From the 60’s or so. I haven’t got those fancy tools but I make cylinders using brass sheet.

Im a seam welder, I run 250 inch welds on average, my partner rolls my materials into the barrel of a gas tank, so this is pretty cool to me

It's called back rolling and it's an essential step if you want round pipe.

I'm not a metal fabricator, but I learned something on youtube from a guy that learned something from youtube. That's honestly a neat little trick.

I always roll those backwards gradually flipping each time, for longer pieces cut a piece of thin cardboard for the center to "crown" the roll and roll it on the inside of the roll with the metal.

Well, I just learnt that on YT, nice.

" regurgitate something I learned." Very cool!.

I don't have a roller or even have the need to roll metal but I learned this invaluable tip today!

Very interesting technique. Now I need to buy a Slip Roller, some metal and a reason to make cylinders. Knowledge is power.

This feels a little like Blippi teaching me something. Lol

It helps to have a sweep to check your bend radius. Pre-roll the ends to make sure they're good and then work the main body of the part. Once it's close, weld the ends together, grind them flush and run the part all the way through a few times to even out the last inch or so of flatness that used to be the ends of the part.

The portion right at the tip is still flat, quite easily visible in the video. Its because the edge of the steel has nowhere to push against to create the bend at the tip.
Try tack welding the 2 ends or make the workpiece slightly longer and trim the flat ends once rolled to spec. 👍

I was taught to roll the metal both ways to release the crystal structure before properly rolling into a circle/tube.
