I like your channel, guys: the clarity, consistency, attention to detail. Keep up the good work.
One thing I'd like to see is reliability projections for new models inferred from the past ratings, gauged against updates/upgrades/tech implementation of incumbents. I know it's hard to make those predictions but if the vehicle 1) is not the first year of production 2) important elements like suspension or chassis or engine are carried over from previous gen or other models... then it would be worthwhile to consider this addendum.

Got a Nightshade Grand Highlander in the White, incredibly happy with it. Interior is nice and exterior looks sharp, very quick when I need it to be and great MPG. Very roomy too, can fit all my friends in it with room to spare!

I NEEDED this review!! Having traded an 08 4Runner SR5 (which I loved) for a 17 Highlander Platinum AWD (which I regret the day I bought it) I am again at a crossroads. I have waited and waited for the 6th Gen 4R to come out only to be disappointed by the second row room and the price! Now, Toyota has debuted the Nightshade edition in the GH at the Limited Hybrid trim level which I love so I am very torn. I feel like this review has helped me make my decision to pursue the GH Nightshade mainly for the mpg, rear cargo space, and the amenities my 9yo kiddo has come to enjoy in my 17 HL. Great review and thank you for this side by side comparison! TBH, I think Toyota has missed the mark in pricing with the 6th gen 4R given there are so many overlaps between the 4R, Land Cruiser, and Lexus GX. The 4R needs a price drop to be competitive with its siblings.

The Toyota SUV lineup is becoming like the 3 Spidermans pointing at each other meme 😂😂😂

I honestly think that based on dimensions and overall space, the 4Runner compares more with the Highlander than the GH

Imagine the GH with the front facia and the screen from the 4runner

The GH is simply the better buy in this particular test. With that 4Runner being the more street-oriented variant of the body-on-frame vehicle, it fails at both offering better on-road driving dynamics as well as off-road capabilities(albeit it is better than the GH here). With the GH, you get a better interior environment in every dimension, from comfort, to space, to features, to even design. Yes, the 4Runner "looks" better on the exterior, but not terribly far off of the previous generation.

I would definitely go GH here.

Toyota/Lexus has always charged a steep premium for their reliability which also drove up resale value while always skimping on the quality of the interior and features. To make things worse, they are keeping supply outrageously low (more so than any manufacturer) and dealers are charging crazy markups still. This is all fine and dandy, based on the premise that you are buying a reliable car and planning on keeping it for many years to come. Unfortunately, the premise of reliability has gone out the window as a brand and you have to choose to be blind to all the engine and transmission issues they've been dealing with, for whatever reason (that's a whole different topic). If your engine or tranny fails at 7, 000 miles on a Chevy, Jeep, or Nissan, you gambled and lost; but you kinda were expecting it. But not on a Toyota, not at this rate. And Lexus, the reliable, luxurious brand...the luxury is also gone. The LX is now in the 110-120k range and doesn't feel much more special than the new Nissan Armada. That's my long way of saying that I personally would not pay this much for either one of them, unless I waited another 1-2 years for Toyota to figure out their issues. And it's a shame because their new cars are pretty nice looking.

I like the concept but I think the better comparison would've been the GH vs Sequoia

Excellent comparison, I’d definitely take the GH!😸

I probably would’ve gone the Grand Highlander if it didn’t cost so much and if I could actually find one. Ended up going for a RAV4 for my young family and just upgrade down the road to a 4R/Grand Highlander/GX.

Is there a way you can share ride quality from the back seat too, where our passengers are sitting.

Bought the Limited 2015 4Runner & loved it. But time for a new Toyota (had previously loved VW).
I live in Bahamas - so no long road trips on highways but occasionally stuck in traffic. The salt eats cars - had to replace all underparts & weld chassis.
Looking to purchase either 4R or GH in hybrid model but unsure which one. Btw - I hate new colours - I prefer black, white, silver. WTH is stone or cement - looks like dirty water.
Just came upon your channel & love it but still unsure - any advice/suggestions ?
