We used to have an Ammonia plant at our steelworks. Ammonia used to eat everything that it came in contact with. All the conventional steel and stainless steel pipework was replaced time and time again.
The only pipework that survived for any length of time was very expensive Titanium pipework. Imagine it running through your engine ?

There is energy in the nitrogen-hydrogen bond. I am curious, it seems like this tech tosses out that energy. Why focus on hydrogen alone when the whole ammonia molecule is green energy?

Great reporting Diana. This is the first report on ammonia from CNBC and I am a very faithful viewer. More is needed. Please invite Dr. MacFarlane from Monarch University to talk on the subject. Green ammonia (NH3) is a less costly solution and a more reliable storage and transport medium for green hydrogen. Ammonia has a big market (agriculture), and can be transported using the existing pipeline and trucking infrastructure unlike Hydrogen which imposes special pipes due to the embrittlement impact of the hydrogen molecule on steel and most metals.

The decomposition of ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen is an endothermic process, meaning that it requires the addition of energy to obtain products.

Ammonia is no different than a battery... in that it is not a source of energy, just a store of energy. You have to generate it and that takes energy. What matters is the total energy balance for the work done. Where are those numbers and how much C02 emissions do you end up having compared to EVs, compared to Diesel and gas engines.
