IBM Research Cognitive Building

The number of IoT devices in buildings is rapidly increasing along with new requirements for flexible operation from space usage, the smart grid to the individual occupants. Cognitive Buildings utilize cognitive technologies to autonomously integrate IoT devices and learn system and user behavior to diagnose problems as well as predict and optimize the building performance.

The video shows the IBM Research Cognitive Building system that processes real-time data from thousands of sensors via the Watson IoT platform from the Dublin campus. It uses cognitive technologies such as machine learning to analyse comfort, space usage and energy consumption as well as diagnostic reasoning to detect and diagnose anomalies at scale. Mobile interfaces based on Watson speech technology and augmented reality permit occupants and operators to naturally interact with the system and utilize them to increase their productivity along the systems energy efficiency.
