Maxim Defense PDX-SD Review Shot Show 2023

Maxim Defense has added a suppressed version of its PDX-SD rifle to its premium line of short rifles. The PDX-SD is specifically designed for use with a suppressor, which was found to be hearing-safe when firing M855 ammunition, with a reading of 138 dB during testing.

The design of the weapon is intended to provide constant suppression, making the suppressor an integral part of the muzzle device. The outer tube of the suppressor is removable for easy maintenance, and if the core wears out over time, it can be replaced. Additionally, the suppressor core can be upgraded as new versions become available.

According to Maxim Defense, the PDX-SD has an overall length of 23.75 inches when collapsed, and the suppressor measures 5 inches in length and 2.25 inches in width. The larger circumference of the suppressor allows for a more efficient use of space, allowing for a shorter overall length of the rifle.

It appears that the PDX-SD uses the SCW system, which is a patent-pending design that helps to keep the overall size of the rifle down. The SCW is a direct impingement system and features an integrated bolt carrier group (BCG) with interchangeable buffer weights. This allows for maximum performance and versatility without sacrificing form and function.

Finally, the thing that drew me away from the first PDX is that suppressing it voids the warranty which defeats the purpose of chambering it in 300 blk

I "had" the same short buffer tube/brace on my pistol build that gave a collapsed length of 18.75 inches to end of flash can. It was the most convenient truck gun.

Hopefully Maxim Defense solved the heat problem on the hand guard. Even with gloves, it gets to hot to hold after two to three full mags. How do I know this??? I own one...

I have their PDX in 300 blackout as a registered SBR and love it. Had I known back then that pistol braces would have been SBR’s I’d have gone that route haha😂

With that barrel length I think that the .300 BLK is the optimal caliber for that platform

Supressor is always nice to have. Specially with so short 5.56 barrel.
300blk and 7.62x39 sound bit more logical if we go that short in rifle calibers.
