Yeah, this is literally the most helpful Chinese video I’ve ever seen on YouTube (and I’ve lot). Bookmarking this and I will rewatch over and over. Thank you!!

I’ve watched so many movies or tv shows where the sound is very clearly changed from standard Mandarin, and there are very few resources explaining this, especially the thing about removing the initial of the second syllable. Having a teacher just say “yeah, we do this” is so helpful.

比如,在这个电影《少年的你》有个人叫 Hu Xiaodie。但是呢,周冬雨说的时候她听起来像 ”Hu Yiaodie”之类的。我在看的时候好困惑!现在明白了。

谢谢老师!

All the videos on the Beijing accent are so helpful! That's all my in-laws speak, and it threw me off for so long I didn't even realize there was this accent that was so different than standard Mandarin. Until I found this channel and wow, it all makes sense now, thanks Fan Laoshi!

I'm not a Chinese Mandarin student, I just enjoy languages, and I have been looking for a while that "Chinese with an _r_ ".

So it's from Beijing... to me, it's sounds amazing.
I wish I could learn Mandarin, but the writing system is 🤯

Thank you so much! I was so confused as to why in some resources the w sounds more like a v or that zhe was sometimes pronounced as zhei. I love your videos!

These exclamations are so helpful! No textbook teaches these stuff! This is so “down to earth”! Thank you!

Thanks for explaining this!! When I learned Mandarin from a Beijing cassette tapes, my staff members (who speak with a more Taiwanese/ Shanghainese accent) were giggling at my Beijing accent! Thanks for breaking this down

This video is incredible. I’ve read a lot on Chinese linguistics and none of those books have gone over half of what you talked about in this video. Please make more of this type of video where you analyse speech!

So interesting because I’m from Beijing and trying to explain to my American husband the difference between “standard Mandarin accent” and the “Beijing accent” this video made me realize the habits I never noticed I had

感谢老师讲这么多语音教学技巧!
我中文学了十多年了,不管在老家或在中国 老师们总会忽视汉语发音的教学 😒

关于lazy sounds和drop it这两个小段特别有用!

Woohooo! I loved the first one you did, and this is such an amazing follow up 😁 Love the way Beijingers speak! This is the exact accent I’m trying to have and I already do a lot of your suggested tips so I’m glad I’m on the right track. Also love watching 马思瑞 to see how a non native speaker handles it. Would be awesome if you kept making these kinds of videos about the Beijing/Northern accents and how to better speak/interpret them. 范老师加油!

Love it! Find dialects so fascinating! I didn't have many friends from Beijing in Sichuan, but had a few and it was always a quite challenging! But not so bad either, especially when one is already used to not so standard putonghua.I feel that Sichuanhua has quite a lot of erhua too... (I guess it makes sense since it belongs to the northern dialects...)

Great video! It gives me a feeling of home. My Chinese self basically grew up listening Beijing rap and so I was super excited to hear my Beijing 哥们儿s speak the way I used to hear from music or some TV shows before I'd gone to China. I found myself to have to control my Beijing accent in my classes a lot, especially the -ing finals LOL

Oh wow, I'm a sinology student in Beijing and I have been looking for ways to refine my chinese and also to just simply understand the beijing 老头儿 when they talk😅 And this video just came in incredibly handy! ☺️

THANK You for helping explain to my Mandarin-speaking Cantonese friend what the hell I was talking about! She's mostly ABC, but actually born in GuongDong, so the Mandarin she knows was learned in (Chinatown) Boston, MA, USA. While at home, Guongdong Hua (like your husband/bf) She can't hear the difference in Mandarin and doesn't even know what a tone is even though she uses them correctly in Cantonese (6 tones, 9 sounds) and Mandarin all the time, perfectly.
