The Most Offensive Question I’m Asked As A Doctor | Dr. Mike

I’m very lucky to live a life where I get paid to do what I love, helping patients in my practice and around the world here on YouTube. As wonderful as that is, unfortunately, there are some costs. Today I wanted to open up and share with you some of the personal struggles I’ve had being a doctor in media, whether it be receiving disrespectful comments and questions from strangers to literally getting my identity stolen by hackers. Thanks to those of you who have always joined me in our mission to fight medical misinformation, and hopefully, you’ll continue standing by my side as we fight cyber bullying and judging medical professionals based on their looks.

I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

The most offensive thing is being handed an apple as a doctor

I can't relate to being told I'm too beautiful for a job.

As a patient (and nurse), I don’t care how you look, I care about your bedside manner, knowledge, and honesty. When a doctor tells me that something is out of their scope of practice and sends me to someone else, I appreciate that honesty. I’m surprised people are so shallow about your looks.

It’s actually really beneficial for his platform that he’s as attractive as he is. He catches attention and then people actually learn something. I’m glad that he’s been able to stay as humble and real as he has with all the attention. That can’t have been easy.

"Why did you become a doctor when you could have been a model?"
But Doctor Mike is a role model.

I am a female physician, and I am sorry I have not discovered your channel until now! I had to laugh at your last discussion about being “too beautiful“ to practice medicine. I found that as soon as I started getting my gray hair, I was basically finding that patients were more easily taking my recommendations, I would hear a lot more “whatever you think is best doc“, “ I trust you doc”. Ageism at its best!😄 now that I am all gray, I have colored my hair magenta!😆

Can you imagine if Dr Mike was your actual doctor?? You have the flu and you stroll in all congested with a fever and Dr Mike walks in? I would be dead. LOL.

I thought the most offensive question would be, "So, doc, how many patients have you killed?"

When I was doing manual labor jobs to save money for college, I often had people look me up and down and say “can you even lift 50 pounds?”. It was always a mix of fun proving them wrong, and irritating that they would make such an assumption. I may have been a slender young woman, but I had been weight lifting since I was 15.

As a women so many times I’ve tried to get a job as a painter or anything that is male dominated and they just look me up and down and say “you do realize this is hard work….” I’ve had painting companies tell me they loved that I had experience but decided to go with men. Idk why people have to be so judgmental all the time! I love your videos. I love smart people! We need more people like that in the world.

Imagine stooping low enough to threaten a doctor.
I hope those things never affect you. You have the best job in the world.

Dr. Mike, I've been on this planet for 65 years, and I am so thankful that we have doctors like you! I am seeing more and more young doctors, particularly D.O.s, practicing family medicine with empathy, truthfulness and kindness.
The WORLD NEEDS doctors like you! Keep up the good work! Your parents must be very proud of you!

Having patients to feel comfortable with you is honestly a really good doctor skill.

One of the most amazing thing I like about Mike is the fact he is always worried about how to be good referent not only for the "influential" status he has, but he still worried we got the right information and properly advised us also, you are one on your kind Mike! keep that work!
