5 RULES TO HELP SEA TURTLES (Official) | Music Video

Показать описание
Join Miss Murtle in singing the "5 Rules of the Beach" to learn how to help our nesting and hatching sea turtles.
The 1st rule is to pick up any trash you see. Sea turtles can mistake food for trash and become quite ill. It also litters our oceans and can be harmful for other marine life as well.
The 2nd rule is if you dig a hole, that you fill it back in. Adults and hatchling sea turtles can become trapped in holes that you dig on the beach. It make it a safer place, please fill them in before you leave for the day.
The 3rd rule is if you build a sand castle, that you knock it down. Sandcastles can be obstacles to both the adult and hatchling sea turtles. If an adult hits a sand castle, she may get spooked and turn around without nesting. This is what we call a false crawl. The hatchlings will have a harder time making it to the ocean if a sandcastle stands in their way!
The 4th rule is when you leave the beach for the day, that you take your belongings with you. Beach chairs, tents and other belongings can become obstacles for our sea turtles. So please be sure you take everything back home.
The 5th rule is if you happen to be on the beach at night, be sure to only use red lights. The white lights will startle our adult sea turtles and they may return without nesting. The hatchlings find the ocean when they emerge from the nest because the horizon should be the brightest point. There are other cues the hatchlings may follow but the light source is their strongest. If other lights are on the beach, they may head in the wrong direction. This wastes valuable energy that they need for their first swimming journey and they also are exposed longer to land predators, like ghost crabs and raccoons. Also, be sure you give the sea turtles a distance of 30 feet to avoid any disturbance.
If we all follow 5 rules of the beach, we can ensure a safer place for our turtles to nest, hatch and emerge! Miss Murtle thanks you for your participation!
