Macrophage vs lymphoma

⚔️ 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲!

The large macrophage cell rapidly recognises and engulfs three lymphoma cells (the small, circular cells), working to protect healthy cells from cancer cells. Nanolive’s refractive index imaging shows the macrophage cell membrane reaching out and contacting the lymphoma cells before beginning phagocytosis. Once inside the macrophage, lymphoma cells start to be digested and destroyed.

Lymphoma is a broad term for cancer that begins in cells of the lymph system. The two main types are Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Hodgkin lymphoma can often be cured. The prognosis of NHL depends on the specific type.

Macrophages are white blood cells that are part of the human immune system. They are large, specialized cells that are formed in response to infections or damaged cells. The name macrophage comes from the Greek words makrós (large) and phagein (to eat).
