When I moved to Pinellas county 30 years ago I was warned not to move to Shore Acres because of exactly this

I owed a house on Bayshore Blvd Shore Acres in the late 90’s. After I purchased the house the previous owners disclosed that the house had flooded. I can’t recall the exact year, but approximately a year or two later my house flooded and all the houses around flooded from a rainstorm in conjunction with a king tide. Not even a hurricane. I lost so many irreplaceable things that I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Fortunately I was able to sell the house. As much as I loved the area, I would never advise anyone to buy a home in Shore Acres.

😢. I love st Pete but I’m tired of dealing with this every year now.
It didn’t use to be every single year.

Does anybody know how snell isle held up? I used to live there, a few blocks from shore acres, and my street would always flood, just from a rain storm, so I could only imagine the devastation the residents are facing right now. My son's Aunt lives down the street from where I lived, and she's right on the water.

Why aren't homes here built on stilts/pylons? If it's so flood prone, it seems like common sense.

Trump voters - if you think the economy is bad - climate change is real and it's EXPENSIVE - vote for leaders who believe in climate change and want to do something about it. NOTHING is more important.

I feel safe living an hour from the beach in Florida because we have storm drains and canals, but in Florida you can be 90 minutes to both coasts and 150' above sea level.

Florida is a awesome and special place and I appreciate the direction Desantis has been going, but we are in trouble with our population growth, housing prices, Insurances costs and crazy HOAs. Gov needs to realize no building code or code enforcement is ever going to be good enough here. I've written our state and local governments to consider a new approach that will fix housing in the state and lead to an explosion in home ownership where they relax zoning, building codes and code enforcement. Let people take the risk they want and live how they want on land they own outright. Mandate evacuations and get out of the way. Focus on better infrastructure. Regulate real estate transactions, Insurances and banking putting the full burden on buyers to know what they buying. Inform and protect the consumer and GTFOOTW. THIS will restore the American dream and truly make Florida the land of the Free and the Brave.
