Absolute nonsense. You failed to mention the most important part; that insurance companies don't have their clients best interests at heart and underpaying losses is how they stay in business. My experience is that carriers pay only about 30-40% of what the loss is worth, then they wait and see if their insured will complain. If public adjusters aren't necessary, then why do we always double the claim? I can't make the carrier pay something that's not owed, so how come the fair and equitable insurance companies are paying only a fraction of what's owed? The answer is that they stay in business by under paying claims. Plain and simple.

I'm a public adjuster and what you said is incorrect. First of all, we educate consumers on their policies -- something insurance companies want to keep them in the dark about. Second, we make sure their insurance company treats them fairly. Third, we look at residual damage that the homeowner is not aware of and the insurance adjuster ignores. I joined this business after a leaky toilet in my first floor bathroom got me zero from my insurance company. A public adjuster wrote a claim for me and got me $17K as compensation for damage to my hardwood floors. That's how necessary public adjusters are!

Very good advice!! Thank you! I have had two claims one with a public adjuster and one without it (this one). I decided to just talk to my adjuster with my insurance company and all worked out well. It was actually pretty easy to ask for the additional damages that my contractor found. They needed a little more documentation, but I got to not keep that extra ten percent and use it toward fixing my house. Also, what you said was great about the premiums, I am glad you brought that up and good to know in case I have any future claims

Keith,

I'm not sure where you're getting your numbers that an adjuster will get you 5-10% more can you please give me some data on your numbers? Take a look at the survey from consumer reports OPPAAGA from 2010 public adjusters get insured's paid 19-747% more and its based on actual data. Also an experienced qualified public adjuster also helps navigate an insured while the claims adjuster is getting bombarded by the carrier by new losses and doesn't have time to handle their caseload. I understand your position as a salaried employee of the insurance industry but I do have to tell you a good public adjuster is well worth their fee. Just like any other industry there are good and bad ones, the question isn't should I hire a public adjuster it's which one should I hire.

Please look before you walk, have a good day.

I m not sure if you know what your talking about. You said "maybe" the insurance company will help. Your not sure yourself and claiming that public ajduster is not needed. The insurance adjuster is on the insurance side not the policy holders side. The premium doesn't go up. It's false. The insurance only care about paying the premium. They are not worried about giving out a check. They make billions a month.
