Snow Day: A Road Trip To Julian, CA 2021

This video features highlights from my January 2021 road trip to Julian, CA during a winter storm. Along the way are scenes from Sunrise Highway, Mt. Laguna, and the Lake Cuyamaca area. It's a little different from my usual videos. I wasn't able to fly my drone, so there are no aerial shots. But there's plenty of beautiful, snowy scenery and interesting sights. I think it's the next best thing to being there, and I hope you'll enjoy it.

Having lived my almost 81 years in Wisconsin and Minnesota, with a few winter months in the Colorado Rockies and a few on Long Island, NY, your speed made me nervous, Ray! However, the scenery was beautiful and the music soothing, as usual. Nice to take a trip with you again! Stay safe, everyone.

I lived in Julian many years growing up, attended Julian Union High School and lived on North Peak mountain which I spent every summer day exploring, this was long before it became over populated with weekend cabins so we called it "my mountain" since I was always out on it somewhere. Loved it beyond measure, folks owned a store in Julian that did a moderate business, all my clothes, boots, gear was purchased at the old Julian Hardware shop and I can't even tell you how many cups of coffee and pieces of Kris's handmade Apple pie I ate at the old Julian Cafe, and oh man the burgers were awesome at the Wrong Branch Saloon and Cafe.
Oddly enough I never ate at the Cuyamaca Lake Cafe, mostly because we always turned off the highway just before it onto Engineers Road to head up to the west face of North Peak, back in that time both the Rangers station and Fire Watch Towers were staffed on Cuyamaca Peak and they used to let me go with them on patrol or climb the tower to sit on the scopes and search for fire smoke, they figured since I'd made the hike all the way there from North Peak I'd earned it, was a great childhood.

Hello Ray, I enjoyed this video very much. This is a wonderful gift to everyone that has always wanted to go to Julian in the winter, but was afraid of the snow drive. That's me to a tee. Your narration was full of great thoughts and made this trip all the more fun. I felt like we were in the car with you on this one. Thanks from your fellow UC resident.
