Suing an online service because of the content that they tried to moderate and tried to take down but couldn’t is like doing CPR, saving someone’s life, and being arrested for battery because you punctured a rib. This is why the Good Samaritan law exists, much like Section 230.

We really are just living in some really stupid times, aren't we? To everyone who sees this, stay safe. Let hope this stuff backfires on them sooner rather than later.

But the fact that the federalist is for removing it says everything, because those judges were handpicked by the federalist Society, weren’t they?

The old folks in the supreme court probably dont understand the full implications of this

That's scary honestly I see why this is important to have this implement Section 230. I thank you Telltale for this to the full honestly I'm not very political since I'm in the middle between the politics after being out of the JWs for 6 years. So, I'll indeed be on your email list. Thank you for this information.

omg that's just scary. I read some of the in-congress waffle about a law that'd have removed some of the core functionality of section 230 and the detailed predictions of what could happen were quite horrifying indeed. there should not be anyone in favor of removing 230. and if you are, do some reading and please change your mind.

The confirmation email went straight to my junk folder, if anyone signed up and thinks they haven't received it, you should check your junk folder.

Thing is, unlike back then, the entire world mainly relies on a law like that, everyone uses stuff like Amazon, Youtube, Twitter, if those things are gone, everybody will be mad at the supreme court, from within and from abroad, they had a time where it wouldn't have done global harm, but now, removing that section could make allies your enemies.

Literally shooting the messenger.
What would it mean for websites and users outside the US?

Honestly internet without algorithms that prey on private data seems like a good place but I also see the dangers of no moderation. Maybe the law could be updated somehow.

Why is it always two extremes with these types of things— it’s so frustrating

I'm so damn tired of all the crap going on. What's the point of living anymore? I feel so scared and terrified of what horrible things are going to happen next. What's the god damn point of even trying anymore?

Thank you, Owen, for telling us about this situation.

Ughhhh... on the one hand, I'd love to see an end of Algorithms. They do as much to hurt as they help. But the lack of moderation...

Honestly if YouTube Shorts vanished I wouldn't shed a tear. It keeps recommending far-right clips to me.

This feels like simply "let's find a way to punish/hurt Big Tech for being too 'liberal'".

That's funny because in the EU websites are REQUIRED to moderate their content. So I guess they would have to do two different websites, one for the US, one for EU?

Guess I'll be VPNing to Canada in the future.

Chances are there's gonna be a MASSIVE lobby that will pop up to protect section 230, so I don't think you need to worry THAT much

Thank you for raising awareness of this.
