Unions are calling on BHP to negotiate with them by using a loophole in the Albanese government’s workplace laws.

They took advantage of the new industrial relations laws, which allowed them to impose bargaining on employers without the support of workers.

Unions are seeking an annual wage rise of five per cent, more pay for long-serving tradesmen and better rosters.

Minerals Council of Australia Chief Executive Tania Constable is criticising the move, arguing it would lower productivity.
