Skeletron is genuinely the worst boss in the game. He has SO many valuable thing locked behind his defeat, but he's practically impossible to kill before fighting at least 1 of the mech bosses, WHEN HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE A PHM BOSS! Skeletron is just so poorly balanced.
