Lec-15: Collision Domain Vs. Broadcast Domain | Repeater, Hub, Bridge, Switch, Router | Networks

In this video, Varun has explained how various devices work in Collision Domain and Broadcast Domain.
In a collision domain, when two or more devices transmit data at the same time, their signals collide, resulting in data corruption.
A broadcast domain is a logical division of a computer network in which all devices can receive broadcast messages sent by any other device within the same domain.

In video no 12 of these series you explained how bridges uses Mac address .. also you explained about static bridges and dynamic bridges.. thats why i am confused why you have written "no change" in broadcast domain for bridges ..

Sir thanks a lot for making videos for all of us.I guess i cant think completing my degree without your unconditional support. You are such an inspiration for everyone.Thank you so much sir🙏😊

i think in cases of bridge and switch, if sender and recipient are in same network then their broadcast domain will be reduced because of filtering capabilities of these devices as you told in previous lectures

@Gate Smashers in previous videos you told us that Bridges and Switches do filtering .. then how come broadcast domain do not change ?

Basically sir is talking specifically about broadcast packets which are meant to be sent to all the devices. Switch and bridge forward broadcast packets to all the connected nodes but router keep it within the same network and does not forward it to another network like in case of Address resolution protocol request which is stopped by the router and kept within the same network. Hope it helps..

I think it's based on IP addresses.

That's why bridges and switches are forwarding to all without filtering if consider IP address.

Am I right? I am beginner to this course

it is possible to send a broadcast message within just one LAN (Local Area Network) segment controlled by a switch. When a broadcast message is sent within a LAN, it is forwarded by the switch to all devices connected to that LAN segment, but it does not leave the boundaries of that LAN. so we say the we reduce broadcast domain of switch, please check it..

Great Video !!
I have a doubt regarding the Broadcast Domain in Bridge and Switch.
According to your previous lectures both these devices carry our Filteration to stop the packet from travelling to the other side if required.
Thus limiting the Broadcast domain to just one side.
Means, Broadcast domain gets reduce in case of Bridge and Switch.
Sir Plz Correct me if I am wrong.

Sir in bridge we use mac address so there is no need for broadcasting like we use IP addresses in routers then, there should be a change i.e, a reduction in the broadcast of the bridge right. Please do clarify .

I am watching your full playlist right now and suddenly I got notification of your new video of computer network. And when I am watching 1.9 video at that time I got that notification 😅.
You are great sir
And sir I am waiting for software engineering next video

All who confused in switches and bridges why these two doesn't reduce broadcast domain because switches and bridges uses routers direct broadcast that why they broadcast both side
But
In router there are two categories which is limited and direct broadcast limited part can filter message and remains the message within one side

bridge broadcasts to only those nodes that are on the proximity of receiver node, , , so it obviously must reduce broadcast domain no? please explain
