For me, he sang it like he was taking the piss out of it, he nailed it but from this album, all or nothing at all is unreal and my favourite track, I loved franks voice in this period had a real mature edge to it

A long time ago, back in June of 1966, I heard Frank Sinatra sing Downtown. I thought it was great.  I mean who better than Frank Sinatra knows all about a swinging  goodtime Saturday night. He sang it, he entertained it--and he partyed it.  I was in hot water with people around me because at the time I so enjoyed Petula Clark singing it.(Downtown).  The late Sixties generation were into The Doors, an The Guess Who.  I never told anyone I liked Frank Sinatra singing Downtown, luckily.  I mean I got crucified by this high school for liking Petula Clark singing Downtown. Frank Sinatra saved the day for me. This miserable high school, I am referring to is Strathroy District Collegiate Institute,   Strathroy, Ontario, Canada.

I've just seen Petula Clark singing Downtown on French TV. I thought, I know this song, but it's a man singing it, pretty sure it's Sinatra. Googled it, and it was first a Petula Clark song indeed (not written by her). To me Sinatra's voice and interpretation suits the song much better.

Does everyone know that Frank is making fun of this song, which isn't exactly Cole Porter. Occasionally, Frank felt compelled to do less-than-classic material to stay contemporary. This is one such case.
