HDR10+ vs HDR10 4K Blu-ray Side-by-Side HDR Comparison

We compare the HDR10 Plus open-standard dynamic metadata format vs HDR10 static metadata, using two Panasonic 2018 OLED TVs, two OPPO 203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players, and two HDR10+ 4K Blu-rays (two copies each of Journey to The South Pacific and A Beautiful Planet from Mill Creek Entertainment).

We used a Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K (BMPCC 4K) with greater dynamic range and better low-light capability to capture the HDR10+ versus HDR10 footage.

To sum up, the differences we're seeing between HDR10 plus and HDR10 were more subtle than those we saw between Dolby Vision and HDR10.

Hi Vincent, on a TV that's bright enough, e.g Samsung S95C, is the difference between HDR10 and HDR10+ enough to justify switching to a streaming box that supports HDR10+ and selling my Nvidia Shield TV?

Is there a chance that the "Beautiful Planet" disc uses HDR10+ as a container only? (i.e. its dynamic metadata content is static)

Vincent, what software version supports HDR10+ on the Oppo 203? here in the USA the oppo digital site shows latest update Feb.... 2019 which allows HDMI bypass. I dont see a Beta listed either

Would've been an idea to upload in HDR, so it could be viewed better on an HDR monitor/TV to better illustrate the differences.

My understanding of HDR10+ is that it dynamically calibrates the range of colors on every frame in order to be able to provide finer gradations _where the full dynamic range isn't needed_. What I suspect is going on in the case of the space movie is that the consistent presence of extreme contrast forces the range to always be stretched out to the fullest, thus eliminating the ability for dynamic adjustment and effectively making the range static. (i.e. approximately equivalent to HDR10)

I don’t know whether to get LG b9 or c9 I know you recommended c9 but it’s 250 pounds more expensive. I see hdr10 is supported on b9 but c9 had hdr10+ what is the difference?

We know YouTube is not the way for us to do a fair comparison by looks.. in spite of that there is some little differences when watching your video with bias light of 2900k.. I noticed the regular hdr looks yellowish.

So is HDR10+/ Dolby Vision worth it over standard HDR10? I'd like OLED TV but my room is rather bright during the day so I was thinking Samsung's QLED would be better (higher brightness) but then I'd lose Dolby Vision altogether... Is the difference between those dynamic and static HDRs actually visible in everyday watching?

I'm just curious, is there any reason why this wasn't filmed and uploaded in HDR? YouTube supports HDR uploads that can, you guessed it, be viewed in HDR on a compatible display
