Firstly, there are no TV's that support 12-bit, nor any content. All Dolby Vision content is only 10-bit. Secondly, it is a symptom of a battle between Samsung and LG/Dolby. Appreciate that HDR10+ is royalty free, but this battle is currently not benefiting the consumer.

99% of people can't even tell the difference until they're told what they're watching. In my opinion Dolbyi Vision is not worth the hype when you have a high end display capable of tone mapping

My tv supports both. So I’m the winner.

I get both whenever the content is optimized and available in either HDR10+ or Dolby Vision. I still prefer Dolby Vision 12 bit technology over HDR10+ 10 bit technology.

Dolby Vision fans always brag about the dynamic mapping information contained in its files, but the reality is that this is like a pre-made dish, the behavior of its brightness information software scaling leads to the TV's processing algorithms can not intervene in accordance with the actual limitations of the display device can not be customized to play, while HDR10 + video data to the device through the device's internal processing brightness scaling can be better used to play the level of the display device's capabilities. The display device's capability can be better utilized. The specific performance, you can see on youtube some TVs that support HDR10+ and Dolby Vision at the same time playing the same movie with different standard comparison, it can also prove my point above.

I did not think there were any 12 bit TV`s, i thought they were 8 to 10 bit.

HDR10+ makes a big visible difference to HDR10. My player has the option to switch off HDR10+ so i can easily test and see

What about market shares?
Who wins Dolby Vision or HDR 10+? Samsung does only offer HDR 10+. IS Samsung the only brand which doesn’t offer Dolby Vision?
What is the dominant system on 4K Blu-Rays HDR, HDR10+ or Dolby Vision.
Before buying a TV today it would be nice where the future goes.

4k ultra disc doesn't even support dolby vision only supporting HDR or HDR10 I'm perfectly happy plus projector this days doesn't support dolby vision. JVC projector only supports HDR10 my projector. I don't care dolby.

I personally for my eye Dolby is way to bright. So I prefer the HDR10+ realistic that is the biggest difference I notice is how much brighter Dolby is.

I was looking at the Samsung S90C, I watch movies and TV shows and notice they are all dolby vision (disney+, vudu) so would this be a deal breaker or should I look at Sony/LG.

I know this is an old video, but this isn't the whole truth. HDR10+ may be open source, but hardware manufacturers must pay a licensing fee to use the logo and have compatibility in their products. There are also Dolby Vision compliant projectors. Ironically, my tablet and phone are both HDR10+ capable, but Prime Video and Paramount+ won't display HDR over their android app (they will on android TV, but that's a different thing), so to this day I've mostly only seen Dolby Vision (which I do still believe looks superior), or I've had to **cough** obtain a couple of HDR10+ test videos just to see how they looked. While I don't really think they're THAT different, I still don't see this ending the way Samsung hopes it will.

Another great video and explanation. Here's something I recently tried with my new Samsung QN90A TV. I have always used Apple TV 4K to stream movies. HDR content looks great on everything. But I know Apple TV 4K doesn't support HDR10+ (their 2022 model coming out November 4 does though, and I've already ordered on!) so I can only get HDR10 through Apple TV 4K. I thought that maybe by using the native apps on my TV, I might be able to get HDR10+ as these are not going through the Apple TV 4K box but are streaming on my TV.

Not sure if this works as I have no way to verify it because my QN90A doesn't differentiate between HDR, HDR10 or HDR10+; it just displays the generic HDR icon when any HDR content is playing. But I tried watching the beach scene in LoTR House of the Dragon episode 7 (the one everyone is complaining about being too dark to see) and here is what I see on my TV:

1) Streaming through Apple TV 4K (HDR10) I can actually see details in the actors faces (it's still very dark because they chose to do it this way according to HBOMax) and most of the detail is watchable. In fact, when I originally watched it the night it came out, I didn't know there was a problem until I read about all the complaints in the news.

2) When I went back and rewatched the same scenes on my TV's native HBOMax app, so MAYBE I was getting it in HDR10+, it was so dark, I couldn't even tell there was anyone on the beach in the scene where "what's his name" is sneaking up on the "lovebirds". Watched the beach scenes multiple times and could not make out much of anything.

When I went back and watched it again via Apple TV 4K, it was still dark, but I could see their faces and details and could actually see what was going on.

So, my question is, with the native app, IF I was actually getting HDR10+, was the dynamic tone mapping actually darkening the dark scene making it almost too dark?

Thanks in advance for your advice/input.

Neat video!
I can definitely tell the difference between HDR 10+ and Dolby vision! If anyone can't it's because thier display is not calibrated or adjusted properly. All TV's shipped today have incorrect color accuracy and the white balance is shifted way too far towards blue.
Once it's adjusted properly then you can see the difference, Dolby vision will have better color and a very earthly tone while HDR 10+ will push the image towards more blue. My LG hu810p laser projector has HDR 10+ and I don't use it due to projectors even the expensive JVC laser projector can't perform well due to the low lumens and nits required.
In my opinion my LG in SDR mops the floor with HDR. My image is crystal clear 4k and colors pop out at you while maintaining the detail in dark scenes. My LG C1 OLED has Dolby vision and it's incredible! While I chose to watch movies on the projector we use the TV for shows. A few Dolby vision shows are Ozark and Stranger things and they look awesome in Dolby!! 😎👍🤘
