Great video, I happen to live near the forts guarding the “backdoor” of NYC, Fort Schuyler and Fort Totten. Fort Schuyler is beautifully preserved and is apart of the campus of NY Maritime College, (my Alma mater) while Fort Totten was never fully completed in the third system style, continued in the evolution of sea coast defense. Both are open to the public and great to visit if in the area.

I noticed the chimneys on the interior shot of Fort Sumter were those for creating hot shot?

Were Fortifications designed to disperse or reduce the effects of Smoke from Gunfire?

Excuse me, but speaking AS A SOUTHERNER the costal forts WERE most definitely about repelling a FOREIGN INVADER. Despite the efforts of Reconstruction (still on-going) we ARE A DIFFERENT people than you Yanks.
