Nationalism and patriotism are not quite the same! The average German can be patriotic on occasion - without being nationalistic, at least that's the way I would put it.

Maybe not a unique culture, but definitely a mono culture. There is almost no other sport in Germany, and it never stops. Bundesliga, 2. Liga, 3. Liga, Championsleague, Euro League, Euros, Worlds, qualifiers for Euros and Worlds with friendlies and Super Cups scattered inbetween add to that women's football and when people run out of football heroin, there are always U21, U16 qualifiers and tournaments to serve as football methadone.
