I am soooo happy to have found this channel. I have always embraced a stoic mindset, but often fail in practice. Even though I am beyond middle age, about to turn 57, I have been participating in more and more activities that have been difficult but so rewarding and my life gets better and better each year. As someone that was born into a family of stoicism and Buddhism in America, and that has studied culture and lived in China academically, I have always thought of Stoicism as the closest thing we have in the west to Daoism. It is therefore the most precious cultural heritage we have and should be protected and aspired to ESPECIALLY by those who wield power and influence. In the same way that Laozi wrote the Dao De Jing to do harm reduction by educating rulers on how to put their egos aside and enjoy the fruits of their position without getting in their own way, so too did the stoic philosophers act as a critical influence on would-be rulers to keep them from destroying both themselves and those they had a responsibility to.

Wonderful clip! I love Ryan's approach and perspective on stoic philosophy. I am also familiar with this idea of death being tied to the life you have lived and to not to be taken for granted. This is also tied into being intentional with one's time.
