Here in Brazil we often say European Cinema (Cinema Europeu) but it usually refers to France, Italy and Germany, the same way as Asian Cinema refers to Japan, China and South Korea.

But it's easier when addressing dumbskis to say you like Asian Cinema, than saying you like mainly HK cinema, but also Japanese, but specific genres and from specific eras, plus some Korean cinema from late 90's early 00's boom, and the mid naughts Thai actioners, and also some Vietnamese and Indonesean action efforts from the last decade and a I'm all tired now. Yeah, I'm just gonna dumb it down for the plebs and say Asian Cinema.

Great video...I hope teachers in Western countries have students watch your vid and then make the kids do assignments on the differences between Korean, Hong Kong, Japanese, Mainland Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, etc. films. BTW, I prefer the term ‘films from the Far East’ over the term ‘Asian cinema’ which I actually avoid like the avian flu.

oh.... people here in HK say "European cinema" ALL THE TIME. The homogenizing happens on both sides. Just that people discuss it in Chinese so other people don't pick up. Of course, I can see where you're coming from. It does bother me when people get different Asian countries seriously mixed up.

Man I do this all the time, but you're absolutely right so I'm going to stop.

One of the reasons I do it is because I'm usually too lazy to differentiate between even Chinese and Japanese cinema....which is shitty.

I can't agree more, Chinese movies, hk movies and China mainland movies are basically 3 different ones lol but some westerners just thought they are a whole chunk of cocktail

as a european i use both terms, "european Cinema"and asian Cinema. but in most cases it would be more correct so speak of east-asian Cinema. i think both terms are usefull. of course there are diffenreces between the industries of each country but there is a common market. for example train to busan was a huge success in east asia but not that much in europe. and here in Germany dumb French comedy movies are very popular

well i'm sorry i apreact what your saying but i find it a big frustrating the thought of having to say a mouth full i'm a huge fan of films from asain from country's like Korea japan hong Kong so i men't it as an all encompassing fraise i guess it would be better to say i am a big fan of foreign language cinema ill be mind fall
