One of the finest movies ever made and I so wish it wasn't based on a true story.

Just finished this movie for a high school assignment. As much as this helped me understand how awful the genocide really was, this was one of the most traumatizing movies I’ve ever watched and it makes me tear up everytime I think about it. Its truly horrible how this was based on a actual story, my heart goes out to those that didn’t make it during the era.

So sad that the world ignored this and the same kind of thing is now happening in the Southern Cameroons but the world is waiting for another bloodbath so they give fancy speeches at the UN and make another movie. We've failed woefully.

Cheadle has a massive aura of coolness. Sure this is an emotionally hard-hitting drama, but Cheadle still makes his character possess coolness.

Former President of France, François Mitterrand, stated that " it is not so important that a genocide takes place in such countries". (Le Figaro, 12 January 1998)

All that Rusesabagina wanted from this movie was to create a star status for himself, and thus continue perversely to benefit from the genocide against the Tutsi population. He was never concerned about the genocide itself. That’s why he never stops distorting it in appallingly cynical ways. He’s a crook.
Example: Just 2 years after the movie came out he gave an interview to say this: _“Most of those guys who were just on the roadblocks were Kagame people.”_ He’s talking about the roadblocks where Tutsi people were stopped, identified by their mandatory tribal cards, and then systematically killed to the very last one by *”those guys”.* Kagame of course is a person who led the struggle to stop the genocide. But Rusesabagina turns everything upside down in his endless cynicism.

I’m looking to see this movie. However, knowing the real stuff about Paul Rusesabagina, I’ll watch this movie with an open mind and remember that not all biography movies like this one are 100% true. While the horrific event itself was true (unfortunately), I will never forget the truths about Paul.
